Stout comes up short twice to UW-Oshkosh

UW-Oshkosh 3, UW-Stout 1 | UW-Oshkosh 11, UW-Stout 4

OSHKOSH (April 30, 2018) - UW-Stout was held to three hits in the opener and punched out 10 hits in the game two, but the results turned out to be the same as the Blue Devil were swept at UW-Oshkosh, 3-1, 11-4, in the Blue Devils' final conference games of the season.

With the scored tied at 1-1 heading into the seventh inning of the first game, the Titans (21-10, 8-4 WIAC) used a pinch hit, two run home run to win the contest, then jumped out a 7-0 lead after three innings to notch the sweep.

In the opener, Beth Wood surrendered five hits - two were home runs - and allowed only a first inning run heading into the final inning. The Titans' Acacia Tupa hit a lead off home run to open the bottom half of the first inning.

The Blue Devils (21-10, 9-5 WIAC) tied the game in the fourth inning when Alica Meyer smacked a one-out home run, her third of the season.  Wood did not give up another hit until the fourth inning, when the Stout defense stranded two runners. Stout stranded two runners in the sixth and one in the seventh.  Kailee Garstecki hit a pinch hit, one out, two-run shot in the bottom of the seventh to give Oshkosh the win.

Stout got the bats going after two outs in the first inning of the second game. Wood and Meyer hit back-to-back singles, but were left on base.

The Titan's brought in three runs in the bottom of the first, keyed by a two-run single by Natalie Dudek. Oshkosh took advantage of four Blue Devil miscues to score four runs in the third and left the bases loaded.

Stout got on the board in the fifth inning, scoring four runs to pull the score to within 7-4. AJ Klosterman broke a seven game hitless streak by belting a bases-loaded single to score two runs. Meyer drove in a run and Jessica Daley singled home Klosterman.

The Titans matched the four runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by Abby Menting's three-run triple. Menting came home on Natalie Dillon's double. Stout threatened again in the sixth inning, but left two runners on and stranded another in the seventh inning.

Meyer and Meghan Kelly both had two hits to lead Stout. Tupa was 4-for-4 for the Titans and Erika Berry, Dillon and Garstecki all rapped out two hits.

The Blue Devils will participate in the WIAC Championship, May 4-6, at UW-Whitewater. Stout will be either the second or third seed in the tournament.
