MENOMONIE (April 24, 2018) - UW-Stout used big innings in both games on their way to a 5-1, 9-3, WIAC sweep over UW-River Falls Tuesday at Alumni Field. The two wins moves Stout into sole possession of second place in the WIACÂ and was the Blue Devils' fifth and sixth consecutive wins.

Freshman
Meghan Kelly hit a pinch hit two-run single in the opener as Stout garnered four runs in the inning by sending 10 batters to the plate.
Katelyn Schobert drove in a run in the inning, as did
Sommer Kunstmann. Senior
Beth Wood picked up her ninth win of the season, going the distance, striking out five and scattering five hits in the complete game effort. The Falcons broke up Wood's shutout bid with a run in the sixth inning.

Trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the second of the nightcap, Stout sent 11 batters to the plate in the second inning to take a 5-2 lead. The Blue Devils added three more runs in the third inning. Senior
Kaylee Francois, Mary Illiopoulos, Wood, and
Renee Murphy each drove in a run.
Stout added three more runs in the third as Wood and Kelly pushed runs across the plate. Wood added her third RBI of the night when she doubled in Francois in the fifth inning.

Francois was 5-for-8 for the evening, scoring five runs, and was 3-for-4 in the second game with an RBI and three runs scored. Iliopoulos, who leads the NCAA Division III in batting average, was 3-for-4 in the second game. Wood finished the second game going 2-for-4 and was 3-for-5 in the series.

Freshman
Melea Bruns went the full seven innings in the second game, allowing six hits and only one earned run, to earn her fifth win of the season. She had one strike out, but walked none.
