THIS WEEK'S GAMES: The Blue Devils (8-14, 2-9 WIAC) will travel to
UW-Stevens Point (15-7, 9-2 WIAC), Saturday, Feb. 10 for a 3 p.m. contest. The Blue Devils are coming off an 82-81 home win over
UW-River Falls (14-7, 5-6 WIAC), Wednesday. The Pointers are now in a tie for first place in the WIAC with UW-Platteville after a 56-47 loss at Platteville Wednesday.

A LOOK AT THE BLUE DEVILS
- The Blue Devils are getting double-digit scoring from four players, with seniors Isaac Elliott and Sam Ortmann leading the way. Elliott is averaging 15.0 points per game with Ortmann tossing in 11.9 points. Elliott is averaging 3.9 rebounds and Ortmann 3.7. Elliott is fourth in the WIAC in scoring and Ortmann is 14th. Elliott is fourth in the WIAC in 3-pointers made, dropping in 44 of 105 long-range shots. Junior Zach Dahl is averaging 10.8 points per contest and the guard leads the Blue Devils in rebounds, pulling down 4.7 rebounds. Dahl is third in the WIAC in free throw percentage, scoring 61-of-73 charity shots, shooting 83.6 percent from the line. Freshman Joe Duty is averaging 10.9 points, tops of all freshmen in the WIAC. The Blue Devils are averaging 70.0 points per game and are giving up 73.5.
- Peyton Fulkerson made his first collegiate start Jan. 27 at UW-Platteville, responding with a career-best eight points and five rebounds, playing 23 minutes. Fulkerson has started three games and is averaging 26.0 minutes per game in those games, almost more than four-times his 7.0 minutes per game average in the first 18 games. Fulkerson is averaging 5.0 points over the last three games. Josh Mericle has also seen considerably more time over the last three games, averaging 5.8 points during that stretch and averaging almost 14 minutes.
- The Blue Devils return nine players from last year's roster: John Keefe (Sr, Medford), Sam Ortmann (Sr, Buffalo, Minn), Keegan Dickson (Jr, Apple Valley, Minn), Isaac Elliott (Sr, Stevens Point), Adam Mackey (Sr, Ironwood, Mich), Zach Dahl (Jr, Buffalo, Minn), Brandyn Christman (Sr, Rice Lake), Peyton Fulkerson (So, Lodi) and Tanner Schmitt (So, Coon Valley). But Stout's leading scorer from the last two year, Keefe, was knocked out for the season in the season-opener.

BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT
- The Blue Devils lost to UW-Eau Claire, 77-68, Jan. 31, then lost to UW-Whitewater, 74-55, Feb. 3.
- In a game that featured 13 lead changes and 10 tied scores and a game that was even for the first 35 minutes, UW-Eau Claire grabbed the momentum in the last five minutes and went on to a 77-68 win over UW-Stout Jan. 31 at Zorn Arena.
- The Blugolds gathered a little bit of that momentum late in the first half, overcoming a six point Stout (7-13, 1-8 WIAC) lead and tied the game 36-36 at halftime.
- The game differential in the second half was never more than five points for either team until until Eau Claire went on an 8-2 run to break a 58-58 tie and held a 66-60 lead with 5:02 left. Eau Claire closed out the game with an 11-6 run to take the nine point win.

- Outside of Johnson Fieldhouse, the snow was coming down. Inside of Johnson Fieldhouse the 3-pointers were coming down as UW-Stout and UW-Whitewater combined for 24 3-pointers. But it was the 12th-ranked Warhawks that held the advantage, swishing 16 3-pointers on their way to a 74-55 win over the Blue Devils Feb. 3.
- The Warhawks' first four baskets of the game were 3-pointers, taking a 9-0 lead, then a 12-5 lead. Whitewater took a 46-29 halftime lead. Stout (7-14, 1-9 WIAC) cut the lead down to nine points, 55-46, midway through the second half, but the Warhawks went on a 12-4 run and the closest the Blue Devils would get was 12 points the rest of the way.Dalton Menke
- and Mitchell Pfeifer each hit six 3-pointers with Pfeiffer leading the way with 22 points. Menke finished with 20. Andre Brown scored 12 points.
- Stout's Zach Dahl had a career game, collecting his second double-double of the season, dropping in 20 points and swiping 12 rebounds, both collegiate bests. Dahl hit four of Stout's eight 3-pointers. Isaac Elliott matched his uniform number and finished with 14 points.

ACTIVE DUTY
- Freshman Joe Duty scored 23 points the last time the Blue Devils faced UW-River Falls on Jan. 20, the third game this year he has scored 20 or more points. Duty has nine times scored in double digits and in a win over UW-Eau Claire, Jan. 17, the lanky guard pulled down a game-best 11 rebounds. Duty has scored at least two points in every game this season and has started the last 20 games. In Duty's first start on Nov. 17, he tossed in 21 points and recorded six rebounds against Marian University. Duty is 77-of-174 from the floor (.443), 25-of-68 from 3-point range (.368) and 49-of-62 from the free throw line (.790).

PERFECTION
- Isaac Elliott hit 10 of 10 free throws in the Blue Devils' 65-51 win over UW-Eau Claire, Jan. 17, tying him for the school record in free throw percentage in a single game. Elliott was 4 of 4 in the first half, and 6 of 6 in the second half, including four in the final 1:19 of the game. Cal Glover sank all 16 free throw attempts against UW-Superior during the 1970-71 season. Duke Severson was 12 of 12 against Augsburg during the 1959-60 season. Nate Templer hit all 11 of his attempts against UW-La Crosse, Feb. 12, 2003.
RANKED OPPONENTS
- The Blue Devils have met plenty of ranked opponents this season, with the WIAC supplying five ranked opponents in the Jan. 29 D3Hoops.com Top 25 poll. In addition to 12th-ranked UW-Whitewater, UW-Oshkosh is ranked 18th, UW-Platteville 20th, UW-River Falls 24th and UW-Stevens Point 25th. Stout will face Oshkosh, River Falls and Stevens Point in the final two weeks of the season.
CLEANING THE GLASS
- When the Blue Devils pulled down 57 rebounds in a 96-86 loss to the University of Puget Sound, Dec. 30, in Spokane, Wash, it was the most rebounds by a Stout team since Nov. 24, 2012, when they yanked down 56 against Northland College in the opening game of the UW-Stout Turkey Shootout. Against Puget Sound, Isaac Elliott recorded a career-best 10 rebounds. Zach Dahl yanked down nine boards, which would have been a career-best but the junior guard had recorded a collegiate-best 11 boards the previous night with 11 caroms. Joe Duty also had a career-best against Puget Sound with eight rebounds.
DOUBLE-DOUBLES
- Zach Dahl has twice scored a double-double this season. Dahl tossed in 15 points and recorded a career-best 11 rebounds at Whitworth College, Dec. 29. The following night, fellow guard Isaac Elliott recorded his first career double-double, scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds against Puget Sound, Dec. 30. Dahl recorded his second career double-double against UW-Whitewater, Feb. 3, setting career-highs in both points with 20 and rebounds with 12. Dahl also had a career-best five assists in the Whitewater game.

SCOUTING UW-RIVER FALLS
- The Falcons, who were picked to win the WIAC, bring back three starters from a squad that claimed the 14th regular-season crown and second tournament title in program history. UW-River Falls also made its third NCAA championship showing. Leading the returnees is senior forward Alex Herink, who claimed WIAC Player of the Year honors after placing fourth in the WIAC with 15.9 points per game and seventh with 5.9 rebounds per contest. His 30 blocked shots ranked second in the conference, while his .843 free-throw percentage (102-of-121) was third.
- Herink is currently averaging 15.7 points per contest, second in the WIAC, and Brennan Witt is averaging 12.2 points, ranking 13th. Witt is averaging 7.3 rebounds and Herink is pulling down 6.6. Witt is second in the WIAC in rebounds, followed by Herink at fifth. The Falcons are avearging 72.6 points and allowing 68.2.

THE FALCONS LAST TIME OUT
- The Falcons will be at UW-La Crosse, Wednesday, Jan. 17.
- The Falcons ended the first half on 12-3 run and took a two point lead into halftime at 37-35. In a tightly contested second half the Falcons and Pointers would trade buckets. The game would be tied five different times in the second half. The Pointers' Mark Nelson scored with four seconds remaining to take the lead to 66-64 and the Falcons' last-ditch effort fell short Feb. 3. Alex Herink and Brennan Witt both scored 13 points for the Falcons.

- The Falcons back from early deficit to beat the UW-La Crosse Eagles 77-74 in a thrilling game that would need overtime. The Falcons would battle back to get the game within 4 after a made 3 pointer by Isaac Castellano with 1:21 remaining in the game.The Falcons would tie the game at 67 on a beautiful backdoor cut from Clay Seifert with :22 seconds left in the game. The game would remain 67-67 as time expired and the game would head to overtime. The overtime would be tightly contested. Both the Falcons and Eagles would trade baskets in the overtime period, with the Falcons prevailing, 77-74 over the Eagles.

THE LAST TIME RIVER FALLS AND STOUT MET
- Three starters scored in double figures for UW-Stout, but it was UW-River Falls that finished with the upper-hand as the Falcons defeated the Blue Devils, 96-68, Jan. 20 at Page Arena.
- Stout's Joe Duty scored 13 of his game-high 23 points in the first half, including the Blue Devils' first five points of the game.
- The Blue Devils, fresh off their first conference win earlier in the week, were outscored 42-29 in the first half as the Falcons shot 58.3 percent from the floor, hitting 14 of 24 shots. River Falls stayed hot in the second half, finishing 56.4 percent (32-57) for the game.
- The Falcons had four players in double figures, including Brennan Witt, who notched a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Alex Herink scored 12 points, Austin Heidecker 11 and Clay Seifert 10.

SCOUTING UW-STEVENS POINT
- The Pointers were picked to finish fifth in a preseason poll after finishing sixth last season, but have put together a solid run and are currently on the top of the league going into this Wednesday's game with UW-Platteville, another team that has turned their fortunes around this year The Pointers are getting 13.1 points from Nate Dodge and 11.7 points from MJ Delmore. Brett Tauber is leading the team off the boards, pulling down 5.5 boards. The Pointers are averaging 69.3 points and giving up 65.3 points.

- Junior Mark Nelson made a running layup in traffic with four seconds remaining as the No. 25 UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (15-6, 9-1) extended its home win streak to eight games with a 66-64 win over No. 24 UW-River Falls (14-6, 5-5) on Saturday.

- Sam Ortmann scored UW-Stout's final eight points of the game to pull the Blue Devils to within one point of UW-Stevens Point, but the Pointers staved off the Blue Devils for a 68-65 win on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse Jan. 6. The Pointers scored their final 10 points from the free throw line, not missing an attempt in 10 chances in the final 1-minute, 25-seconds.

Joe Duty was selected as the UW-Stout/Toppers Athlete of the Week, Dec. 12, after scoring 19 points in a win over Finlandia University. Duty also had five assists in a win at Silver Lake College.
BLUE DEVIL HISTORY: UW-Stout, then Stout Institute, played their first game Jan. 11, 1907, hosting the University of Wisconsin at the Armory in Menomonie. The Badgers handed the Trainers a 29-19 loss.
UW-STOUT COACH EDDIE ANDRIST
- Eddie Andrist (210-246 at Stout, 460-437 overall) is in his 18th year as the coach of the Blue Devils, and his 29th overall in the collegiate ranks.
- Andrist led the Blue Devils to their first NCAA Division III appearance six seasons ago when Stout advanced to the second round.
- Andrist coached at Mount Senario for 11 seasons and won three national championships.
- Andrist spent two stints as a UW-Stout assistant, first as a student coach in the 1970s, then again during the 1980s.
- Andrist spent two stints coaching international basketball, working with the country of Qatar
UW-RIVER FALLS:
- Jeff Berkhof (163-148) has been a mainstay of the Falcon program as a player, assistant coach, and now in his 12th season as the head coach of the Falcons. Berkhof follows only his predecessor, Rick Bowen, in coaching victories at UW-River Falls. Berkhof has brought the Falcons to the forefront of Division III college basketball and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. During the 2016-17 season, UW-River Falcons finished the regular season with a 25-4 record and claimed the WIAC regular season title. During this title run, the Falcons had a seventeen game winning streak, the longest in UWRF men's basketball history. The Falcons also went on to win the WIAC tournament championship with a 60-59 win over UW-Oshkosh. This was the a Falcons 2nd WIAC tournament championship and their 4th championship game appearance in the past seven seasons.
UW-STEVENS POINT:
- Bob Semling (277-77) is in his 13th season at the helm UW-Stevens Point. In 12 seasons at UW-Stevens Point, Semling has led the Pointers to two NCAA Division III national championships (2010, 2015), in addition to being an assistant on the back-to-back national championship teams of 2004 and 2005.
CONFERENCES: Stout is a member of the eight team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) along with UW-La Crosse, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Platteville, UW-Whitewater and UW-River Falls. UW-River Falls is projected to win the conference crown, according to a preseason poll conducted by WIAC coaches and sports information directors, followed by: UW-Whitewater; UW-Oshkosh; UW-Eau Claire; UW-Stevens Point; UW-Platteville; UW-La Crosse; and UW-Stout.
DEWEY MINTZ COURT: The basketball court in Johnson Fieldhouse was named Dewey Mintz Court, Dec. 10, in honor of 27-year Blue Devil coach Dwain Mintz, who coached the Blue Devil men's basketball team from 1962-1989. Nearly 30 years after he retired, Mintz is currently fourth on the WIAC all-time men's basketball coaches wins list with a record of 385-280.Mintz coached league contenders throughout his tenure at UW-Stout from 1963-89, including conference championships in 1966, 1969 and 1975. He was the NAIA District 14 Coach of the Year in 1966 and 1973, and NAIA Area IV Coach of the Year in 1969. During his 27 years at UW-Stout, Dewey Mintz Court is the fifth floor named among member schools in the WIAC. The others include: Bo Ryan Court at UW-Platteville; Ken Anderson Court at UW-Eau Claire; Dave "Augie" Vander Meulen Court at UW-Whitewater; and Bennett Court at UW-Stevens Point, named in honor of Dick and Jack Bennett.
