EAU CLAIRE (February 24, 2018) - Connor Valesano scored with less than two minutes remaining to lift UW-Stout to a 3-2 win over UW-Eau Claire in the second game of the WIAC Commissioners Cup to force a tie-breaking mini-game Saturday at Hobbs Ice Arena.
But the Blugolds came back to win the mini-game, 1-0 when Scott Monro scored at the 9:21 mark on the power play after Stout was whistled for the only penalty of the extra game.
The third-seeded Blue Devils opened the scoring of the regulation game when
Alex Bowe scored six minutes into the first period, assisted by
Connor Chambers.
No scoring happened again until midway through the third period when Eau Claire's Jake Bresser scored at 11:02. The Blugolds took a 2-1 lead three minutes later at 14:50 on a goal by Todd Koritzinsky.
Kyle Sylvester scored only 11 seconds later to tie the score at 15:01. Valesano scored scored at 18:41.
Tommi Ahlgren recorded 28 saves for Stout. Zach Dyment had 21 saves for the Blugolds.
The Blugolds will play at top-seeded UW-Stevens Point, Saturday, March 3.
