THE BLUE DEVILS IN 2018-19
- The Blue Devils are averaging 81.9 points per game and giving up 81.6. Stout last year finished the season averaging 69.6 points and gave up 74.9.
- After missing all except two minutes of last season due to injury, John Keefe eased into the first games of the season, but has been on a tear since then. Keefe scored 12 and 7 points, respectively in the first two games, but has scored in double digits in nine of 10 games played. Keefe is averaging a conference-leading 22.0 points per game. Keefe us second in the WIAC in 3-pointers made with 3.4 per outing. Keefe hit a career-best 33 points in an overtime loss to McMurry University. Keefe currently has 1115 career points, and is 17th on the UW-Stout all-time scoring list.
- Zach Dahl overcame a cold start to the season from the floor. The senior captain did not hit a shot from the floor in the first two games, scoring only two points from the free throw line, which may have been an early season precursor. But Dahl has steadily increased his scoring totals and is now averaging 8.3 points per game and is among the team leaders in rebounds, averaging 4.3 per game. Back at the free throw line, Dahl has been steady, hitting 25 of 29 attempts (.862), but not attempt a free throw in the conference opener.
- Sophomore captain Jon Ciriacks played the first two games of the season, then missed the next five games before returning against Crown College, Dec. 7. Now, Ciriacks is averaging 15.3 points and 8.0 rebounds. During his freshman season, Ciriacks averaged 4.2 points and 2.2 rebounds.
- Sophomore Luke Geiger exceeded his entire freshman season scoring totals during the Blue Devils' season-opening overtime win over Lawrence. Geiger last season had 11 points for the entire season, but finished the game with 15 points. Geiger is currently third on the team in scoring, averaging 11.6 points, 21st in the WIAC. Geiger eight times this season has scored in double digits, scoring a career-best 21 points against Northland College..
- Sophomore transfer Brandon Gilbertson has made five starts and is averaging 4.6 points. He had a season-best 10 points against McMurry in his first start.
- Junior transfer Kyle Williams has come off the bench to average 5.4 points, but has made his mark with steals, recording seven against Bethany Lutheran, and now has 16 steals, averaging 1.6 per contest to rank fifth in the WIAC. With 33 assists, good for eighth in the WIAC, Williams is second in the league in assist to turnover ratio. Williams, who comes off the bench, currently has a team-best 33 assists to 10 turnovers for a ratio of 3.30.
- The 96 points scored against Silver Lake is the most since scoring scoring 109 against Crown College in February, 2011. Stout scored 94 against Silver Lake College last December.
A LOOK AT THE BLUE DEVILS
- Jim Lake is in his first year at the helm of the Blue Devils, coming to Menomonie after coaching at Ferris State University where the Bulldogs won the NCAA Division II national title last season.
- Stout was picked to finish eighth in the WIAC in a preseason poll conducted by league coaches and sports information directors.

- Dahl had a breakout season last year, averaging 9.4 points per contest, playing in 24 games and starting 20. Dahl had a career night with 20 points, 12 rebounds and five assists against UW-Whitewater. He led the team in rebounds from the guard position.
- Ciriacks came off the bench in 19 games during his freshman season to average 4.2 points per contest and 2.2 rebounds.
- Keefe returns for his super senior season. The Blue Devils' leading scorer from the 2016-17 season made it less than two minutes into last season when he was injured in the season opener and was lost for the entire season. Keefe was injured when he laid in his only basket of the season. During the 2016-17 season, Keefe scored in double figures in 19 of 26 games, and scored a career-high 32 against former WIAC foe UW-Superior in November. Keefe dished off at least two assists in every game and had four or more assists in 16 games. Keefe led Stout in all major categories, including points per game (15.0), rebounds/game (6.2), assists/game (4.6), steals/game (1.5), and minutes/game (35.5). Keefe was fifth in the WIAC in points, fourth in rebounds and first in assists and minutes/game. BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT
- UW-La Crosse used a 22-7 run to start the game as the Eagles never trailed in a 92-72 conference-opening win over UW-Stout Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. After La Crosse (8-4, 1-0 WIAC) took a 59-37 lead with 15:09 remaining, Stout (6-6, 0-1 WIAC) scored seven unanswered points, three by John Keefe and two apiece by Jon Ciriacks and Josh Mericle, to pull with in 59-44 with 13:46 on the clock. The Eagles answered back with a five point run and Stout could not get any closer than 16 points the rest of the way. Stout finished the game shooting 26-of-62 (41.9%) from the floor including seven-of-19 (36.8%) from behind the three-point line and 13-of-19 (68.4%) from the free throw line. John Keefe led the Blue Devils with 14 points while D'Marcco Patrick and Luke Geiger each added 13 points.
- UW-Stout played their final non-conference game of the season, and came up just short to Cardinal Stritch University, an 80-77 contest Saturday on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse. While the Blue Devils (6-5) led early in the contest, Cardinal Stritch (10-5) held a 42-35 halftime lead. The Blue Devils rebounded coming out of the locker room and took a one point, 48-47, lead six minutes into the second half by running off a 13-5 run, capped off by John Keefe's bucket for what would prove to be a short lived lead. The Wolves captured the lead back on their next possession and never trailed again, building up a double-digit lead. But Stout cut into that lead and got as close to two points twice in the last 30 seconds of the contest. Jon Ciriacks got Stout to within 79-77 with six seconds left. After the Wolves made one of two free throws, Keefe's 3-pointer at the buzzer just missed. Ciriacks led Stout with 20 points. Keefe finished with 17, Zach Dahl 14 and D'Marcco Patrick 10.

LAST YEAR WHEN STOUT AND LA CROSSE MET
- UW-Stout fought back from a 10 point deficit and took a 57-56 lead in the waning seconds, but UW-La Crosse's Milton Cummings buried a 3-pointer as the shot clock expired and the Eagles carried a 59-57 win out of Johnson Fieldhouse Jan. 24, 2018.
- Isaac Elliott scored a career-high 27 points, but it wouldn't be enough to push UW-Stout over UW-La Crosse as the Eagles defeated the Blue Devils, 76-57, Feb. 14 at Mitchell Hall. Elliott shot 6-of-13 from the floor, 3-of-6 from 3-point range and shot 12-of-12 from the free throw line, tying the school record for free throw percentage. Earlier in the season against UW-Eau Claire, Elliott drained 10-of-10 free throws.
SCOUTING UW-OSHKOSH
- The Titans have won 10 straight games after beating UW-Platteville, 96-70, in the conference opener. The Titans finished runner-up last year in the NCAA Division III tournament and bring back four starters from last year's squad that tied a school record with 25 wins and received the program's eighth NCAA postseason bid. UW-Oshkosh welcomes Matt Lewis as its interim head coach, replacing Pat Juckem, who served six seasons at the helm. Lewis was UW-Oshkosh's top assistant the previous six years. Senior guard Ben Boots last season topped the team with 16.0 points and this year currently leads with 16.1 points per contest, Boots not only can shoot, but he can dish and his 145 assists ranked first in the conference last year. This year, he has 51 assists, ranking second in the WIAC at 4.25 per game. Jack Flynn is second on the team in scoring (15.1) and leads the team in rebounds (7.1). Adam Fravert is tossing in 14.3 points and Brett Wittchow is averaging 14.2 points.Oshkosh pulls down an average of 10 more rebounds per game, yanking down 41.6 and allowing 30.1. THE TITANS THE LAST TIME OUT
- Brett Wittchow had a career-high 27 points and a season-best 10 rebounds, Jack Flynnadded a double-double of his own, and the nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team cruised to a 96-70 victory over defending WIAC champion UW-Platteville during the league opener for both squads on Wednesday (Jan. 2) in Kolf Sports Center. UW-Oshkosh (11-1, 1-0 WIAC), ranked sixth in the NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com, broke the game open with a 17-2 run for a 29-9 lead midway through the first half. The Titans, who never trailed in defeating the Pioneers for the sixth time in the past eight meetings, led by at least 11 points for the final 33:49 of the contest. The Titans went on to lead by as many as 36 points (72-36) with 12:28 remaining and owned an advantage of at least 23 points for the entire second half en route to their largest margin of victory over UW-Platteville since also winning by 26 points (94-68) in the WIAC Championship quarterfinals on Feb. 22, 2001.
- All five UW-Oshkosh starters scored in double figures as the nationally ranked Titans defeated Concordia University Wisconsin, 90-68, in a men's basketball contest held Sunday (Dec. 30) at Menominee Nation Arena in Oshkosh. The Titans entered Sunday's contest ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com. Titan Adam Fravert notched his second double-double of the season by counting 15 points, 11 rebounds (10 defensive), six assists, two blocked shots and a pair of steals. LAST YEAR WHEN STOUT AND OSHKOSH MET
- Freshman Joe Duty scored a career and game-high 24 points, but it wouldn't be near enough for UW-Stout as the Blue Devils were downed at 13th-ranked UW-Oshkosh, 89-66, Jan. 10, 2018.
- For the second consecutive game, UW-Stout senior Isaac Elliott scored a career-best, but it was UW-Oshkosh that had an even bigger game, as the Titans defeated the Blue Devils 91-70 on Senior Day Feb. 17, 2018, on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse. Elliott was coming off a 27 point effort in his last outing and topped that number with 28 points. For the third time this season, Elliott tied a UW-Stout (8-17, 2-12 WIAC) free throw percentage record, making all eight of his charity shots. Elliott was 8-of-18 from the floor and 4-of-8 from 3-point range.
