UW-Stout 59, St. Olaf 43
RIVER FALLS (November 17, 2018) - UW-Stout ran their record to 3-0 and two of those wins have come against St. Olaf College as the Blue Devils defeated the Oles, 59-43, at the UW-River Falls Tournament Saturday.
In a quirk of the schedule, the Blue Devils defeated the Oles, 65-51, Nov. 13 in their home and season opener. When the schedule came out, Stout was scheduled to play St. Olaf again only four days later in River Falls.
The taller Oles (0-3) took an early lead in the first period, but
Liz Oswald tied the scored at 11 to end the first stanza. St. Olaf carried a small lead throughout most of the second period until Stout center
Amber Fabeck scored five points, a two-pointer from inside, then 20 seconds later stepped outside to nail a 3-point and give Stout a four-point, 22-18 lead at halftime.
Stout would never trail again, but could not put the Oles away, nursing single digit leads throughout the third and into the fourth period. Fabeck gave Stout a nine point, 44-34 lead, then stretched the lead to 11 points. Only once did the score drop back down to a single digit lead for the Blue Devils.
Fabeck finished with 13 points and six rebounds.
Kyncaide Diedrich led all players, recording her first double-double of the season, dropping in 19 points, 11 in the second half, and had 10 rebounds. The Blue Devils were playing without
Bailey Diersen, their leading scorer from the night before, who was off for an interview for graduate school.
Stout shot 33.9 percent (21-62) from the floor and 13.6 percent (3-22) from the 3-point line. They hit 14-20 free throws and had 40 rebounds and nine steals.
The Oles were led by Ella Skrien with 17 points. Makenna Ash was one point short of a double-double, scoring nine points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
St. Olaf shot 29.2 percent from the floor (14-48), .250 from beyond the arc (4-16) and 52.4 percent from the line (11-21). They pulled down 44 rebounds.
While Stout is done playing St. Olaf for the season, the Blue Devils stay with MIAC opponents when they host Hamline University, Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.
