UW-Stout 3, UW-Oshkosh 2
MENOMONIE (October 27, 2018) - The match was about as even as it could get. After the two teams each grabbed a pair of sets, the fifth and deciding set came down to 14-14 and UW-Stout delivered the win in a 3-2 victory over UW-Oshkosh Saturday at Johnson Fieldhouse.
The Blue Devils (16-12, 4-3 WIAC) trailed 14-11 in the fifth set, Stout's
Lexie Nelson recorded a kill, then another after an attack error by Oshkosh to tie the score at 14 apiece.
Another attack error by the Titans (16-14, 2-5 WIAC) and senior
Kennedy Strain put down a kill to decide the match.
With the win, the Blue Devils earned the fourth seed in the WIAC Championship and will host UW-Stevens Point, Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.
The teams traded victories throughout the afternoon, with Oshkosh taking the first set, 25-17. Stout tied things up with a 25-21 second set win. The Titans grabbed the lead back with a 25-19 third set win and the Blue Devils sent the match into the fifth set with a 25-15 fourth set win. Stout won the final set 16-14.
Stout's
Amber Ripley led all players with 15 kills. Strain finished with 11 kills, along with a solo block and five assisted blocks.
Tina Elstner led the Titans with 13 kills. Samantha Jaeke added 10.
