A LOOK AT THE BLUE DEVILS
- Seniors lead the way in scoring for the Blue Devils, with Isaac Elliott at the top with a 15.1 point per game average. Elliott is currently ranked fourth in the WIAC in scoring and fourth in 3-pointers made at 2.15 per contest. Elliott has dropped in a team-best 43 3-pointers. Sam Ortmann, who has scored in double-digits the last five games, is averaging 12.2 points on the season, good for 12th in the WIAC. Joe Duty is averaging 11.2 points per game, tops of all freshmen in the league, and leads the team in rebounds at 4.4 per game and assists at 1.90. Guard Zach Dahl is averaging 10.3 points and has 4.3 rebounds. Dahl is third in the league in free throw percentage, dropping in 59-of-70 attempts (.843). Dahl scored a career-best 18 points at Eau Claire and Duty and Dahl both pulled down eight rebounds, As a team, the Blue Devils are averaging 70.7 points per game and giving up 73.5.
- Peyton Fulkerson made his first collegiate start Jan. 27 at UW-Platteville, responding with a career-best eight points and five rebounds, playing 23 minutes. Fulkerson started at Eau Claire on Wednesday.
- The Blue Devils return nine players from last year's roster: John Keefe (Sr, Medford), Sam Ortmann (Sr, Buffalo, Minn), Keegan Dickson (Jr, Apple Valley, Minn), Isaac Elliott (Sr, Stevens Point), Adam Mackey (Sr, Ironwood, Mich), Zach Dahl (Jr, Buffalo, Minn), Brandyn Christman (Sr, Rice Lake), Peyton Fulkerson (So, Lodi) and Tanner Schmitt (So, Coon Valley). But Stout's leading scorer from the last two year, Keefe, was knocked out for the season in the season-opener.

BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT
- In a game that featured 13 lead changes and 10 tied scores and a game that was even for the first 35 minutes, UW-Eau Claire grabbed the momentum in the last five minutes and went on to a 77-68 win over UW-Stout Wednesday at Zorn Arena. The Blugolds gathered a little bit of that momentum late in the first half, overcoming a six point Stout Lead and tied the game 36-36 at halftime. The game differential in the second half was never more than five points for either team until until Eau Claire went on an 8-2 run to break a 58-58 tie and held a 66-60 lead with 5:02 left. Eau Claire closed out the game with an 11-6 run to take the nine point win. Stout hit seven 3-pointers in the first half, but could get only two in the second half. Eau Claire's George Diekelman led all scorers with 27 points. Clay Kujawa came off the bench to score 15 points and Dan Becken added 10 points. Zach Dahl led Stout with 18 points, scoring 10 in the second half. Isaac Elliott and Sam Ortmann each scored 16 points.

- UW-Stout fought back from a 10 point deficit and took a 57-56 lead in the waning seconds, but UW-La Crosse's Milton Cummings buried a 3-pointer as the shot clock expired and the Eagles carried a 59-57 win out of Johnson Fieldhouse Jan. 24.

- UW-Platteville used a big spurt in the first half to push past UW-Stout and the Blue Devils could not catch up as the Pioneers took an 86-69 win Jan. 27 on Bo Ryan Court.

ACTIVE DUTY
- Freshman Joe Duty scored 23 points in a loss to UW-River Falls Jan. 20, the third game this year he has scored 20 or more points. Duty has nine times scored in double digits and in a win over UW-Eau Claire, Jan. 17, the lanky guard pulled down a game-best 11 rebounds. Duty has scored at least two points in every game this season and has started the last 18 games. In Duty's first start on Nov. 17, he tossed in 21 points and recorded six rebounds against Marian University. Duty is 65 of 139 from the floor (.468), 21 of 53 from 3-point range (.396) and 40 of 50 from the free throw line (.800).

PERFECTION
- Isaac Elliott hit 10 of 10 free throws in the Blue Devils' 65-51 win over UW-Eau Claire, Jan. 17, tying him for the school record in free throw percentage in a single game. Elliott was 4 of 4 in the first half, and 6 of 6 in the second half, including four in the final 1:19 of the game. Cal Glover sank all 16 free throw attempts against UW-Superior during the 1970-71 season. Duke Severson was 12 of 12 against Augsburg during the 1959-60 season. Nate Templer hit all 11 of his attempts against UW-La Crosse, Feb. 12, 2003.
RANKED OPPONENTS
- The Blue Devils have met plenty of ranked opponents this season, with the WIAC supplying five ranked opponents in the latest D3Hoops.com Top 25 poll. In addition to 12th-ranked UW-Whitewater, UW-Oshkosh is ranked 18th, UW-Platteville 20th, UW-River Falls 24th and UW-Stevens Point 25th. Stout will face Oshkosh, River Falls and Stevens Point in the final two weeks of the season.
CLEANING THE GLASS
- When the Blue Devils pulled down 57 rebounds in a 96-86 loss to the University of Puget Sound, Dec. 30, in Spokane, Wash, it was the most rebounds by a Stout team since Nov. 24, 2012, when they yanked down 56 against Northland College in the opening game of the UW-Stout Turkey Shootout. Against Puget Sound, Isaac Elliott recorded a career-best 10 rebounds. Zach Dahl yanked down nine boards, which would have been a career-best but the junior guard had recorded a collegiate-best 11 boards the previous night with 11 caroms. Joe Duty also had a career-best against Puget Sound with eight rebounds.
DOUBLE-DOUBLES
- The Blue Devils had recorded only one double-double coming into the Whitworth University Classic, but racked up a pair of doubles, once in each game. Zach Dahl tossed in 15 points and recorded a career-best 11 rebounds against host Whitworth, Dec. 29. The following night, fellow guard Isaac Elliott recorded his first career double-double, scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds against Puget Sound, Dec. 30.

SCOUTING UW-EAU CLAIRE
- UW-Eau Claire's 18 victories a season ago were the most since the 2000-01 squad had 19 wins. The Blugolds bring back senior guard George Diekelman, who finished third in the league with 95 assists and second on the team with 14.1 points per game. Diekelman leads the WIAC in scoring with 15.9 points and is fourth in the league in assists with 2.84. Chris Duff is second on the team in scoring with 15.7 points per contest and is second in the WIAC in 3-pointers made (2.58). Duff also leads the team in rebounds with 5.3. Eau Claire is averaging 65.7 points per game are giving up 65.9. The Blugolds started the season with two straight losses, but then won eight of their next nine games before heading into conference play.

THE BLUGOLDS LAST TIME OUT
- Chris Duff scored a team-high 18 points, but Eau Claire fell short, 75-59, to No. 8 UW-Whitewater Jan. 27 at Kachel Gymnasium.The Blugolds faced another tough challenge as they played their third-straight ranked opponent, one of the difficulties of playing in the WIAC.

THE LAST TIME EAU CLAIRE AND STOUT MET
- UW-Stout's Sam Ortmann stepped in front of the pass at the UW-Eau Claire free throw line, drove the distance of the court and was hammered as he layed the ball in. Waiting to get the ball for the free throw attempt, Ortmann turned to the UW-Stout bench and smiled, then calmly dropped in the charity shot to give Stout a 10 point, 55-45, lead with just less than four minutes remaining. That was the type of game it was for the Blue Devils as they picked up their first conference win of the season, 65-51, Jan. 17 on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse. Holding a 13 point, 50-37 lead with seven minutes left in the game, the Blue Devils did not blink after the Blugolds cut the lead to seven with back-to-back 3-pointers.

- Previous to Stout's win over the Blugolds two weeks ago, Eau Claire had won the last six meetings. Stout's last win over Eau Claire came Jan. 25, 2014, in Eau Claire, 89-67. Stout's last win over Eau Claire in Johnson Fieldhouse came Jan. 4, 2014, 56-45.
SCOUTING UW-WHITEWATER
- The Warhawks have four players averaging in double digits, led by Andre Brown leads the team with 15.1 points, ranking fifth in the WIAC. Brown has been the team's leading scorer in seven of the team's nine conference games. David Sachs is tossing in 12.1, Mitchell Pfeifer 11.7 and Derek Rongstad 10.8. Sachs is second in the WIAC in assists, averaing 3.65. Rongstad leads the team off the glass with 6.1 rebounds, sixth in the league. The Warhawks are averaging 73.8 points per contest and giving up 64.7. . UW-Whitewater made their 21st NCAA appearance in program archives last season. THE WARHAWKS LAST TIME OUT
- UW-Stevens Point shot 52.2 percent from the floor and 86.4 percent from the free-throw line compared to the Warhawks' 44.2 percent effort from the floor and 61.5 percent shooting from the free-throw line and went on to a 74-60 in Stevens Point in a battle of nationally-ranked teams Wednesday. The 60 points was the second-fewest scored by Whitewater this season. Junior guard Andre Brown lead the Warhawks with 18 points and four assists. Junior forward Derek Rongstad and junior guard Dalton Menke each added nine points. Whitewater went on a 12-4 run early in the first half. Brown dropped in a basket for the Warhawks to give them a seven-point lead with 14:45 remaining in the half. Stevens Point tied the score at 33 just before halftime. Despite a quick 3-point basket by Rongstad in the third quarter, the Pointers went on a 17-4 run and led the Warhawks by 13 points with just under 10 minutes remaining in play. With a tip-in from sophomore center Riley Jensen, Whitewater came within seven points with six minutes remaining in the contest, but would not take the lead for the remainder of the game. Despite committing 13 turnovers compared to just seven by the Warhawks, UW-Stevens Point outscored UW-Whitewater 41-27 in the second half.

- Whitewater defeated UW-Eau Claire, 75-59, in a conference matchup at Kachel Gymnasium Jan. 27. The Warhawks sank 12 3-pointers and shot 57.1 percent behind the arc in the game in the victory compared to 40 percent (2-of-5) behind the arc from UW-Eau Claire. Junior guard Derek Rongstad led the Warhawks with 16 points and four assists. Junior guards David Sachs and Dalton Menke both tallied 12 points and junior Maurquis Turner added 11 points.

THE LAST TIME WHITEWATER AND STOUT MET
- UW-Stout's Isaac Elliott scored 16 of his game-high 24 points in the second half, but it was UW-Whitewater that would pull away with a 69-55 victory over the Blue Devils Jan. 13 at Kachel Gym. The Blue Devils shot 52 percent in the first half, while the Warhawks shot 39 percent. Both teams recorded the same number of field goal, and it was Whitewater that held a five-point, 32-27, halftime lead, hitting one more 3-pointer and four more free throws than Stout.

Joe Duty was selected as the UW-Stout/Toppers Athlete of the Week, Dec. 12, after scoring 19 points in a win over Finlandia University. Duty also had five assists in a win at Silver Lake College.
BLUE DEVIL HISTORY: UW-Stout, then Stout Institute, played their first game Jan. 11, 1907, hosting the University of Wisconsin at the Armory in Menomonie. The Badgers handed the Trainers a 29-19 loss.
UW-STOUT COACH EDDIE ANDRIST
- Eddie Andrist (210-245 at Stout, 460-436 overall) is in his 18th year as the coach of the Blue Devils, and his 29th overall in the collegiate ranks.
- Andrist led the Blue Devils to their first NCAA Division III appearance six seasons ago when Stout advanced to the second round.
- Andrist coached at Mount Senario for 11 seasons and won three national championships.
- Andrist spent two stints as a UW-Stout assistant, first as a student coach in the 1970s, then again during the 1980s.
- Andrist spent two stints coaching international basketball, working with the country of Qatar
UW-EAU CLAIRE:
- Matt Siverling is in his eighth season overall and sixth at UW-Eau Claire (104-98, overall / 75-74, at UWEC). Between 2004-2007 he was assistant men's basketball coach at UW-Eau Claire. The Blugold's finished off their 2016-2017 season in fourth place in the WIAC with an 8-6 record, and a 18-8 record overall. Prior to his return to Eau Claire, Siverling was the head men's basketball coach at UW-Superior for two seasons. With the Yellowjackets he led the team to two WIAC Tournament appearances. In 2011-2012 his 8-8 conference record was the team's best WIAC mark in ten seasons.
UW-WHITEWATER:
- Pat Miller (368-109) is in his 17th season at UW-Whitewater. A four-time Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, Miller has led the Warhawks to two NCAA Division III national championships.
- Miller is a 1989 graduate of UW-Whitewater and played three seasons under head coach Dave Vander Meulen. In the 1988-89 season, he was a co-captain of the team that won a national championship (the second in school history and second under Vander Meulen - the first was 1983-84). Miller enjoyed his finest season, averaging 16.6 points per game and knocking down 107-of-223 (.480) from 3-point range, the second-most attempts and third-most makes in school history. That year, he was also tabbed the WIAC Men's Basketball Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Miller ranks third in school history in three-point field goals made, and in three-point field goal percentage, as well as fourth in three-point field goals attempted. Miller was 178-of-371 from three-point range in his career, a .480 percentage.
CONFERENCES: Stout is a member of the eight team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) along with UW-La Crosse, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Platteville, UW-Whitewater and UW-River Falls. UW-River Falls is projected to win the conference crown, according to a preseason poll conducted by WIAC coaches and sports information directors, followed by: UW-Whitewater; UW-Oshkosh; UW-Eau Claire; UW-Stevens Point; UW-Platteville; UW-La Crosse; and UW-Stout.
DEWEY MINTZ COURT: The basketball court in Johnson Fieldhouse was named Dewey Mintz Court, Dec. 10, in honor of 27-year Blue Devil coach Dwain Mintz, who coached the Blue Devil men's basketball team from 1962-1989. Nearly 30 years after he retired, Mintz is currently fourth on the WIAC all-time men's basketball coaches wins list with a record of 385-280.Mintz coached league contenders throughout his tenure at UW-Stout from 1963-89, including conference championships in 1966, 1969 and 1975. He was the NAIA District 14 Coach of the Year in 1966 and 1973, and NAIA Area IV Coach of the Year in 1969. During his 27 years at UW-Stout, Dewey Mintz Court is the fifth floor named among member schools in the WIAC. The others include: Bo Ryan Court at UW-Platteville; Ken Anderson Court at UW-Eau Claire; Dave "Augie" Vander Meulen Court at UW-Whitewater; and Bennett Court at UW-Stevens Point, named in honor of Dick and Jack Bennett.
