ST. PAUL, Minn. (January 12, 2018) - Hamline University scored the final three goals of the game, including two in the third period, to give UW-Stout a 5-3 loss Friday at TRIA Rink.
But in the first two periods, it was the Blue Devils (5-9-2)Â that came from behind and eventually took a lead. Hamline (4-9-1) opened the game with a goal at the 12:14 mark of the first period by Russ Jordan.
Stout's Mathia Ahman tied the score just under two minutes later, getting his 10th goal of the season and seventh on the power play, with assists from
Connor Chambers and
Evan Butcher .
Seconds later, the Pipers took the lead back on a goal by Brandon Reinholz.
Most of the second period belonged to Stout.
Alex Toscano scored at 9:57, with assists by
Adam Kresl and
Joe Kleven, to tie the score. Stout took the lead, 3-2, at 16:10 on a
Gavin Smith goal, with assists by
Lucas Carroll and
Jordan Stejskal.
Hamline took advantage on the power play just three seconds before the end of the second period when Mitch McPherson scored at 19:57. The Pipers took a 4-3 lead on Jordan's second goal of the game at 6:53 in the third period, then salted the game away with an empty net goal at 19:08 by McPherson.
The Blue Devils out-shot Hamline, 30-20. Stout's
Evan Bisek, making his first start as a Blue Devil, recorded 17 saves. The Pipers' Evan Robert had 27 saves.
Stout returns to the Twin Cities Saturday, Jan. 13 when they travel to Augsburg University for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
