UW-Oshkosh 67, UW-Stout 47
MENOMONIE (January 10, 2018) - UW-Stout struck first, but 14th-ranked UW-Oshkosh quickly answered with a strong first quarter and went on to a 67-57 win over the Blue Devils Wednesday at Johnson Fieldhouse.
The Titans (11-2, 1-2 WIAC) scored the first points of the night, but two free throws by
Brianna Banks, making her first collegiate start, and a lay-up by
Bailey Diersen gave Stout (7-7, 0-3 WIAC) a 4-2 lead. Oshkosh went on a 14-0 run to take a 16-2 lead with 5:04 left in the first period.
The Blue Devils pulled to within seven points, 18-11, with 46 left in the period, and continued the momentum into the second period, getting as close as 18-15 on a Banks layup at 7:54 of the stanza. Oshkosh built the lead back up, finishing the final seven minutes of the half by outscoring Stout 10-4, and a 28-19 halftime lead. Stout got as close as eight points early in the fourth quarter before Oshkosh pulled away.
Oshkosh's Isabella Samuels led all scorers with 16 points. Eliza Campbell added 12 points and Chloe Pustina and Melanie Schneider each scored 10 points. The Titans out-rebounded the Blue Devils, 39-24.
Stout was led by
Bailey Diersen with 10 points.Â
Carsyn Osterman scored a career-best eight points and pulled down a best four rebounds. Osterman, along with Diersen and
Amber Fabeck, had a team-high four rebounds.
The Blue Devils shot 37.0 percent (17-46) for the game, while Oshkosh finished shooting at 39.3 percent (22-56). Both teams made five 3-pointers. Free throws fell tonight, with Oshkosh canning 18 of 19 charity shot. Stout hit 8 of 10. Both teams were perfect from the line at halftime, Oshkosh 8 for 8 and Stout 4 for 4.
The game marked the first of a four-game homestand for the Blue Devils. Stout will host UW-Whitewater, Saturday, Jan. 13 at 3 p.m.
