RIVER FALLS (September 16, 2017) - UW-Stout faced a pair of schools from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) at the UW-River Falls Invitational Saturday. The Blue Devils (4-7) were defeated 3-0 by the College of St.Benedict in the opener and went five sets in a loss to the University of St. Thomas.
Stout was swept in the first match of the day, 3-0, by the College of St. Benedict.
Ashley Pratt led Stout with nine kills as the Blazers took a 25-22, 25-21, 25-17 win. Freshman
Amber Ripley finished with seven kills.
The Blazers got 13 kills from Bridget McDonald and 12 from Liz Schultz.
In the five-set loss to the Tommies, Stout had five players put down double-digit kills, led by Pratt and
Kennedy Strain with 14. Freshman
Demi Ploor had 13, Ripley 12 and
Emily Bialka with 11.
St. Thomas' Whitney Lloyd led all players with 17 kills in the 25-22, 22-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-11 win. The Tommies recorded 12 solo blocks and 12 block assists.

Steph Cannon was named to the all-tournament team.
Stout was coming off a four-set loss to MIAC opponent Bethel University, the night before.
Stout will open the conference season Wednesday, Sept. 20 when they host UW-Platteville at 7 p.m. Stout will be at WIAC/CCIW Crossover at North Central College in Naperville, Ill., Sept. 22-23.
