MENOMONIE (April 17, 2017) - UW-Stout slipped back to .500 after a pair of losses to the University of St. Thomas as the Tommies limited Stout to two runs in 7-2, 8-0 decisions Monday at Alumni Field.
The Tommies (24-6) jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Stout (13-13) got on the board when
Megan Hultgren drove in
Kaylee Francois, who had opened the fifth inning with a double to right field. Stout, which finished the game with seven hits, got one more run in the sixth inning on a solo home run by
Kyncaide Diedrich.
The Tommies outhit Stout 11-7, but committed two errors. Hultgren finished with two hits to lead Stout. Jenna Beeso and Brenna Walek each were 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Tommies. Jenna Bromen was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
In game two, the Tommies belted a pair of Blue Devil pitchers around for 11 hits and six runs before
McKayla Brunner came on to finish the game, giving up two unearned runs. Brunner has not given up an earned run since March 24. During that stretch where she made five appearances over 15.1 total innings, Brunner has surrendered 10 hits and just the two unearned runs today.
The Tommies' outhit Stout 13-5 in the six inning contest, shortened by the 8-run rule. Chase Shortly, Dana Connelly, Megan Bush and winning pitcher Sammy Hogan each finished with two hits. Hultgren was 2-for-3 for the Blue Devils for the second consecutive game. Stout hurt their own cause by committing four errors, two in the bottom of the sixth inning.Â
Stout is scheduled to be at UW-River Falls, Wednesday, April 19 in a game postponed from April 14. The Blue Devils will be at UW-La Crosse, Saturday, April 22 and at UW-Platteville, Sunday, April 23.
