MENOMONIE (April 1, 2017) - UW-Stout got back on the winning track with a doubleheader sweep of the University of Northwestern Saturday at Reynolds Field. The Blue Devils scored the game winning run in the top of the seventh for a 2-1 game one win, then blasted the Eagles in a five-inning, 9-0 second game win.
In the opener, Stout's
Kyncaide Diedrich (Fr, Athens) laid down a sacrifice bunt in the top of the seventh to score Kaitlyn Schobert (Fr, Belmont) with the game winning run.
Beth Wood (Jr, Mineral Point) struck out five.
Megan Hultgren (Fr, Forest Lake, Minn) was 2-for-3 for the Blue Devils.

In the second game,
Rachel Thomas (Jr, Hastings, Minn) was 3-for-4 with three RBI and scored one run. Diedrich was 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Diedrich was also the winning pitcher, throwing 4.1 innings. The game ended after five innings as Stout (8-10) scored five in the fourth and three in the fifth.
The Blue Devils return to action Sunday, April 2 when they travel to Wartburg College.
