Titans use long range bombs to down Stout, 73-55

MENOMONIE (February 18, 2017) - UW-Oshkosh drained 14 3-point shots on their way to a 73-55 win over UW-Stout in the final regular season game of the year at Johnson Fieldhouse Saturday.

The Titans (16-9, 9-5 WIAC) earned the second seed in the WIAC Tournament, which begins next week. The Titans earned a first round bye. The Blue Devils (13-12, 4-10 WIAC) will open conference tournament action as the sixth seed and will play Tuesday, Feb. 21 at an opponent to be determined.

Both teams took advantage of the long range shots in the first half, with the Titans making seven and the Blue Devils five. The difference in the game turned in the second half when Stout did not make a 3-pointer after the break, while the Titans matched their first half totals with seven to finish with 14.

The team traded leads throughout much of the first half, but the Titans took the lead for good with six minutes left in the half and carried a 37-31 halftime lead.

Oshkosh led 47-39 at 14:00 of the second half and went on a 13-4 run over the next five minutes to stretch the lead to 17 points. Stout got as close as 14 points a couple of times, but could not cut under that.

The Titans' Charlie Noone led all scorers, putting down seven 3-pointers and finished the afternoon with 23 points. Ben Boots hit three 3-pointers and finished with 15 points.

John Lahti led three Blue Devils in double digits with 12 points. John Keefe tossed in 11 points and Braden Walbeck hit two 3-pointers for 10 points.

The Blue Devils will play at UW-Whitewater, Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. in the first round of the WIAC tournament.
