UW-Eau Claire 83, UW-Stout 67
EAU CLAIRE (February 1, 2017) -
Jenna Goldsmith and
Kyncaide Diedrich both extended their conference-long scoring streak, but it wouldn't be enough as UW-Eau Claire moved past UW-Stout in the fourth quarter to take an 83-67 win over the Blue Devils Wednesday at Zorn Arena.
Both Goldsmith and Diedrich have scored in double digits in all nine of their conference games, with Goldsmith scoring a game-high 18 points and Diedrich chipping in 11.
The Blugolds (11-9, 5-4 WIAC) held a 37-33 halftime lead and the Blugolds outscored Stout (6-14, 2-7 WIAC) by only two points in the second to take a 61-55 lead at the end of the third period.
Eau Claire stretched the lead to 10 points with a 69-59 lead at 6:49 of the final stanza. The Blugolds shutdown the Blue Devils in the final 2:25 of the game. After
Anna Brown scored what would prove to be Stout's final points of the game, Eau Claire scored the final five points of the game, all coming at the line.
Stout finished the game shooting 48.2 percent (27-56)Â from the floor - their second highest percentage of the season - and hit a season-high 10 3-pointers.Â
Bailey Diersen scored 14 points.
But the Blugolds shot at a higher percentage, albeit only one-tenth of a point, shooting 48.3 percent (28-58) and also connected on 10 3-pointers. Eau Claire had five players score in double digits, led by Hallee Hoeppner's 17 points Anna Grasskamp racked up a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Maddie Dunathan and Arien Brennan each added 12 points and Jenni LaCroix had 11 points.
Stout returns to Johnson Fieldhouse Saturday, Feb. 4 when they host UW-Whitewater at 3 p.m. on Alumni Day.
