MENOMONIE (November 4, 2017) - UW-Stout failed to convert on their power play and fell 4-1 in a non-conference contest to St. John's University, Saturday at the Fanetti Community Center.
The Blue Devils (1-2-1) had seven power play opportunities - albeit one was only the three second power play chance - and came up shot on all seven chance.
On the flip side, St. John's (4-0-0) was able to convert on 2-of-6 chances, including a power play goal just before the first period horn sounded when Brady Heppner put the game's first goal on the board at 19:46.
The Johnnies took a 2-0 lead at 9:14 of the second period on a goal by Travis Brown.
Twenty-two seconds later Stout got on the board to cut the lead to 2-1 when
Lucas Carroll scored his first collegiate goal and the Blue Devils' first shorthanded goal of the season, getting an assist from
Conner Valesano.
Stout would have four power play opportunities in the third period, while the Johnnies converted on one of their two chances.
Following an even strength goal at 11:49 by Garrett Riebling, the Johnnies' Huba Sekesi closed out the scoring with a power play goal at 15:53.
Stout outshot the Johnnies 30-24, with St. John's goalie Mac Berglove making 29 saves. Stout's
Evan Hauser took the loss with 20 saves.
Stout will be St. Olaf, Friday, Nov. 10 and at Gustavus Adolphus, Saturday, Nov. 11.
