Blue Devils tipped by 12th-ranked Raiders

Milwaukee School of Engineering 3, UW-Stout 1

STEVENS POINT (November 25, 2017) - UW-Stout cut the lead in half in the second period, but 12th-ranked Milwaukee School of Engineering held off Stout's charge, scoring a late empty net goal to defeat the Blue Devils 3-1 in the consolation game of the UW-Stevens Point Holiday Tournament Saturday.

The Blue Devils (3-6-1) had to overcome a penalty shot goal by the Raiders (6-1-1) to open the game. Eric Tien took the penalty shot midway through the first period to give MSOE a 1-0 lead. The Raiders doubled the score with just over two minutes remaining in the first period on a goal by Nick Redmon.

Stout broke onto the scoreboard at 5:48 of the second period when Lucas Carroll scored his second goal of the season, getting an assist from Connor Chambers.

The Blue Devil defense shut down the Raiders after the first two goals. Tommi Ahlgren recorded 10 saves in the second period and the Blue Devil defense limited the Raiders to only four shots in the third period until MSOE's Nate Rogers scored an empty-net goal with two ticks left on the clock for the final 3-1 score.

Stout outshot MSOE, 33-22. Ahlgren finished with 19 saves. The Raiders' Rock Boynton had 32 saves.

Both teams came up empty on the power play with Stout going 0 for 5 and the Raiders 0 for 2.

Stout opens WIAC play this week when they host UW-Eau Claire, Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Fanetti Community Center. The Blue Devils will host UW-Superior, Friday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.
