ST. PETER, Minn (October 17, 2017) - Down 2-0 after dropping the first two sets of the match, UW-Stout would not fold up the tent and played 11th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus relatively even in the third set, but ultimately lost the set and the match Tuesday.
After falling behind 25-18, 25-15, the Blue Devils (8-17) fell behind a couple of times early, but battled back to tie the score and take the lead 9-8 on a kill by
Amber Ripley (Fr, Farmington, Minn). Stout took as much as a three point lead, 13-10, only to see the Gusties (21-3) take a one point lead. The teams traded leads until the Gusties took a 20-19 lead, then finished the game on a 5-3 run.
Kate Holtan recorded 15 kills for the Gusties to lead all players and Lauren Hansen added 11 kills.
Stout got 10 kills from
Kennedy Strain (Jr, Elk River, Minn), who also had two block assists. Ripley finished with seven kills.
Ashley Pratt (Sr, Lakeville, Minn) recorded a solo block and a block assist. stout finished with a solo block and six block assists.
Jessica DuVal (So, Logan, Iowa) had 25 assists.
The Gusties recorded 16 block assists to help their cause, with Claire Lasko contributing four. Hanson and Hanna Albers each had three block assists.
Stout will close the home portion of the schedule Friday, Oct. 20 when they host Minnesota-Morris at 7 p.m. for Senior Night.
