MENOMONIE (January 18, 2017) -
Jenna Goldsmith posted 22 points and eight rebounds, but UW-Stout fell to rival UW-Eau Claire. Three more Blue Devils scored in double-digits, including
Bailey Diersen with 12,
Anna Brown with 11, and
Kyncaide Diedrich with 10.
The first half was tight, both teams scoring, and returning baskets. Stout fell in an early 8-2 hole, but was able to take a 11-10 Diedrich drilled a three pointer assisted by
Carolyn Feddema. The first quarter ended with the Blugolds on top 18-11. The second quarter was much of the same, but Eau Claire held a lead into halftime, 33-28.
Stout made a second half push to gain a lead around the three-minute mark of the third quarter;
Emily Jacques laid the ball in to get a 44-43 lead. Stout made a final push in the third quarter. Goldsmith laid the ball up, assisted by Brown to get within one, 52-51.
Whitney Folkers helped in the fourth to get the lead within five, banking a three pointer from the top of the key which was assisted by
Kalley Hartmann.
In the end, Eau Claire sank free throws to seal the 74-68 win.
Maddie Dunathan scored 21 points for the Blugolds, while four other Blugolds scored in double-digits.
Diedrich added nine assists to her line, while Diersen grabbed five rebounds and dished three assists.
Stout will head to Whitewater Saturday, January 21 for a 3 p.m.
