Blue Devils capture conference opener over Falcons

RIVER FALLS (September 21, 2016) - Ashley Pratt finished with 11 kills as UW-Stout defeated UW-River Falls in the conference opener for the second consecutive season, this time taking a 3-0 win over the Falcons Wednesday in River Falls. The Blue Devils defeated the Falcons, 25-13, 25-18, 25-22
 
Olivia Jung added eight killsfor the Blue Devils (8-5, 1-0 WIAC). Freshman Elle Hagstrom chipped in six kills and Kennedy Strain put down four kills along with five assisted blocks.
 
Amara Meyer led the Falcons (10-3, 0-1 WIAC) with eight kills, while Hannah Striggow finished with six kills. Dakotah Poitra had two solo blocks and Raven Klein had one solo block and three assisted blocks.

In the first set, Stout was never seriously threatened, jumping out to an 8-2 lead, then stringing that up to 20-11 and going on a 5-2 run to close out the set. The second set was much tighter, with Stout holding a 15-14 lead. The Blue Devils closed the set with a 10-4 advantage. The third set was even more tenuous with the score tied at 15 and Stout held a slim 20-19 lead before the visitors captured the set and match, 25-22.

The Blue Devils will be at the WIAC/CCIW Crossover at UW-Stevens Point, Saturday, Sept. 24.
