MENOMONIE (April 19, 2016) - Ninth ranked St. Thomas won both ends of a doubleheader at UW-Stout, taking wins of 2-0, 6-1, in an on-again, off-again rain throughout the afternoon Tuesday.
The Tommies, winners of 12 straight games, spoiled a pretty good outing by the Blue Devils'
Max Sires, who was coming back after injury. Sires went the complete seven innings, allowing five hits and no earned runs. Sires notched two strikeouts. St. Thomas scored both unearned runs in the second innings.
A Keller Knoll single down the left field line in the second inning drove in the only two runs of the game.
In the nightcap, Stout (10-12)Â got on the board first with a run in the first inning. With one out,
Josh Halling drew a walk. Following a flyout, Halling stole second, then came home on
Hunter Dicus' single to left field.
The Tommies got all of their runs in the third inning, coming on six hits hits and one error. Stout was held to two hits, while the Tommies rapped out eight.
Stout will be at Northland College Wednesday, April 20, then will host UW-La Crosse, Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24.
