UW-Stout 15, St. Olaf College 10
NORTHFIELD, Minn (April 14, 2016) - St, Olaf built up a 9-3 lead, but UW Stout rallied to score six runs in the sixth inning and two in the seventh to take a 10-9 lead as the Blue Devils went on to take a 15-10 win Thursday over the Oles.
Blue Devil pitching was tagged early - Stout used seven pitchers in the game - and the big blow by the Oles came in the fifth inning when St. Olaf (7-14) scored four runs on a grand slam by Tim Maus.
Stout (8-8) answered back with a five-run sixth inning to pull to within two runs, 9-7.
Noah Brown delivered a three-run triple to highlight the inning.
Brady Burzynski, in his first game back since an injury in mid-March, drove in a run and
Jon Krueger's ground out scored another run.
The Blue Devils took the lead with two runs in the seventh.
Tyler Nalbach drove in a run and
Josh Halling drew a bases loaded walk for the go ahead run. Stout added a run in the eighth, the put the game away with four runs in the ninth.
Clay Gale recorded his first collegiate home run, a two-run shot.
The offensive output was tops for the season as the Blue Devils cranked out 17 hits to go with the 15 runs. Stout had six extra base hits, with three home runs - Clay's two-run home and solo shots by Burzynski and Brown.
Brown was 3-for-6 with four RBI and two runs scored.
Austin Littmann was 3-for-6 with two runs scored and an RBI. Burzynski was 2-for-6 with three runs and two RBI. Gale, Halling and
Jake Johnson each had two hits.
The Oles' Maus had the gaudiest numbers of the day, going 2-for-5 and six RBI, with each hit leaving the stadium.
Zach Carlson entered the game in the seventh inning, striking out two and walking one while allowing no hits and earned the win. The seven Stout pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts, and each of the pitchers had at least one strikeout, with
Cole Wynveen and
Luke Eide recording three.
Stout returns to conference play this weekend when they host UW-Stevens Point, Saturday, April 16 and Sunday, April 17. First pitch both days is scheduled for 12 p.m.
