UW-River Falls 82, UW-Stout 66RIVER FALLS (February 17, 2016) - Fueled by
Sarah Schoch's 13 first half points, UW-Stout pulled to within a point late in the second quarter, but the Blue Devils could not hold off a UW-River Falls surge and the Falcons captured an 82-66 win Wednesday at Karges Center.
Trailing by eight points with 4:15 remaining in the first half,
Haley Seifert cut the lead to five points, 30-25, on a 3-pointer. Schoch trimmed the lead to two points with a 3-pointer of her own at 3:43 and Seifert dropped in another bomb to give Stout a 31-30 lead with 3:27 left before the break.
The Falcons (20-4, 11-2 WIAC) took the lead back for good with a 12-4 run to end the first half and went into the locker room with a 42-35 halftime lead.
Stout (9-15, 3-10 WIAC) kept the game within reach. Schoch hit another 3-pointer to open the third period and a jumper by
Danielle Adams made it a 42-40 game with 7:09 remaining in the third stanza. Stout pulled to within three points a couple of times in the period, but the Falcons outscored Stout 11-6 in the final five minutes of the period. River Falls pulled to a double digit lead early in the fourth quarter. Stout pulled to within nine points twice, but the Falcons always answered back.
Schoch finished the game with 20 points, dropping in 8-of-15 field goalds, including 4-of-9 3-pointers.
Nicole Schaub was active from beyond the arc for the Blue Devils, scoring 14 points, hitting 5-of-6 from the floor and 4-of-5 from 3-point range. The Blue Devils made a season-high 12 3-point shots on the night.
The Falcons had all five starters score in double figures, led by Kate Theisen's game-high 22 points. Taylor Karge scored 17, Brynn Liljander and Richell Mehus each scored 12 and Katie Messman scored 11.
The Blue Devils will end the regular season when they host UW-Platteville, Saturday, Feb. 20 at 3 p.m. The Blue Devils have earned the sixth seed and will play in the first round of the WIAC Tournament, which begins Tuesday, Feb. 23. Stout will be at No. 3 seeded UW-Stevens Point.
