UW-Stout 74, Lawrence University 71
WISCONSIN DELLS (December 30, 2016) - UW-Stout took advantage at the free throw line and took care of the ball to score a 74-71 win over Lawrence University at the JustAGame Fieldhouse Friday.
The Blue Devils (8-2) drained 17-of-26 free throws, with
Sam Ortmann (Jr, Buffalo, Minn) dropping in 6-of-8 and
Braden Walbeck (So, Fall Creek) 5-of-7 to key Stout's march to the charity stripe. From the floor, the Blue Devils shot 37.5 percent (24-of-64) for the game. The free throws offset Lawrence's 53.7 percent (29-of-54) shooting from the floor. The Vikings (2-6) made 6-of-12 from the free throw line.
The Blue Devils had sticky fingers, recording 10 steals with Keefe,
Brett Ahsenmacher (Sr, Annandale, Minn) and
John Lahti (Jr, Turtle Lake) each getting two. In turn, Stout took care of the ball, turning the ball over only once.
Stout held a 40-33 halftime lead and for the second night had to hold off their opponent's charge. The Vikings made 16 field goals in the second half compared to Stout's 10 field goals. The Blue Devils made 11 second half free throws to the Vikings' three free throws.
Stout's
John Keefe (Jr, Medford) led all players with 19 points. Walbeck finished with 14 points and Ortmann tallied 12.
Mitch Willer led Lawrence with 18 points. Ben Peterson had 14 points and Jeremy Stephani recorded 11.
