Bethel University 6, UW-Stout 2
BLAINE, Minn. (November 4, 2016) - With the score at 4-2 in favor of Bethel University late in the game, UW-Stout was forced to pull their goalie, but the Royals made the Blue Devils pay with two empty net goals in the final minute of the contest as Bethel won their first game of the season, 6-2, Friday.
The Blue Devils (2-1-0) were the first to score in the game as freshman
Connor Valesano scored his second collegiate goal four minutes into the game.
The Royals (1-2-0) stormed back late in the period, scoring three goals in the final five minutes of the stanza, getting goals from Johan King, Dallas Marvin and Andrew Bjorklund.
Bethel made it 4-1 when Justin Bonanno scored at 17:06 of the second perod. The Blue Devils answered back less than 40 seconds later when
Riley Colvard scored his third goal of the season at 17:40.
Freshman
Tommi Ahlgren saw his first collegiate action, getting the call to replace starter
Spencer Viele, who worked the first two periods. Viele finished with 13 saves, but allowed four goals. Ahlgren held off the Bethel onslaught, stopping 14 shots in just under 20 minutes of play.
Bethel outshot Stout, 33-26. The Royals' Joe Sheppard recorded 24 saves.
Stout returns home Saturday, Nov. 5 to host Gustavus Adolphus College at 7:30 p.m.
