Titans take first round match in three, Stout season ends

OSHKOSH (November 1, 2016) - UW-Stout led only briefly in the first set as UW-Oshkosh went on to a 3-0 win in the first round of the WIAC Volleyball Championship, presented by Culver's, Tuesday at Kolf Sports Center.

The Blue Devils (15-14)  took a 2-0 lead in the first set, then a 4-2 lead before seeing the Titans going on to take a 25-17, 25-14, 25-14, to end Stout's season. The two teams had met only four days earlier in Menomonie, with the Titans taking a 3-1 win.

Oshkosh (28-6) got 10 kills and nine digs from Tina Elstner, 38 assists and five digs from Lexi Thiel and 13 digs from Rachel Gardner.

The Blue Devils got nine kills from Ashley Pratt, 21 assists from Jessica DuVal and 12 digs from Anna Panning.

Oshkosh, ranked 20th in the latest AVCA Coaches poll and had won a three-way share of the regular season title, earning the third seed. Stout was the sixth seed. The Titans advance to the semi-finals of the tournament, moving on to UW-La Crosse, Thursday, Nov. 3.
