MENOMONIE (November 1, 2016) - UW-Oshkosh's Alek Kleis ended UW-Stout's season on a penalty kick in the 98th minute of a WIAC Soccer Championship, sponsored by Culver's, quarterfinal game Tuesday afternoon at Nelson Field.
The penalty kick put an end to a wild 10-plus minutes of game time.
With the score tied at 1-1 heading into the 88th minute, Stout looked to take control of the contest when
Sydney Kasper broke loose on a pass by
Ryanne Millis and scored at 87:34. Less than 30 seconds later, the Titans' Rachel Elliott scored her second goal of the game, getting an assist from AJ Jackson, her second assist of the game, at 88:02 to send the game into overtime.
Both teams got off a shot in overtime. Elliott's shot in the 91st minute was stopped by Blue Devil goalie
Lynn Johnson and Millis' shot in the 95th minute went wide of the Oshkosh net.
Kleis substituted in seconds after Millis' shot and two minutes later, placed her shot low and underneath and to Johnson's right for the win.
The Blue Devils scored first in the contest when
Kelly Conn was able to convert a penalty kick in the 36th minute after Oshkosh was called for a handball.
Elliott scored her first goal of the game three minutes after the end of halftime.
