Soccer Preview: Blue Devils to play three this week

THIS WEEK'S GAMES: The Blue Devils (5-7-1, 2-2-0 WIAC) will put a three game winning streak on the line this week when they host Gustavus Adolphus College (7-4-2, 4-4-0 MIAC), Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m., then return to conference play to host UW-Platteville (6-8-0, 1-3-0 WIAC), Saturday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. for Senior Day, before traveling to Minnesota-Morris (4-7-1, 3-2-1 UMAC), Sunday, Oct. 23.

ON-LINE: All Blue Devil home soccer games will be available by Live Stats, network willing. The network at the soccer field has not been active this season, but live updates are available on Twitter.

BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT: The Blue Devils defeated 13th ranked St. Thomas, 1-0, Oct. 12, and came from behind to down UW-Oshkosh, 2-1, in overtime, Oct. 15. Sydney Kasper, assisted by Kelly Conn, scored the game-winning goal in the 95th minute at Oshkosh. The Titans opened the game with a goal just before halftime, but Sarah Todey tied the score in the 84th minute to send the game into overtime. A LOOK AT UW-STOUT: The Blue Devils are currently riding a three-game winning streak, including a 1-0 win over nationallry ranked St. Thomas last weekend and an overtime win at UW-Oshkosh over the weekend. During that streak, the Blue Devils recorded a pair of shutouts and freshman goalie Lynn Johnson picked up her third shutout of the season, and the fifth for the Blue Devils. Johnson is currently posting a goals against average of 1.10 and is currently fourth in the WIAC. Senior Kelly Conn has been leading the Blue Devils' offensive surge, scoring a pair of goals and two assists in the run - including the game-winning goals against UW-Stevens Point and St. Thomas and assisting on the game winner against the Titans. Sophomore Sydney Kasper leads the Blue Devils in scoring with six goals, ranking fourth in both total goals and goals per game. Senior Sarah Todey has four goals and two assists. Freshman Hannah Kirchner has three goals and fellow freshman has two goals. The Blue Devils are outscoring their opponents 18-14. | Statistics



A LOOK AT GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS: The Gusties opened the season with a five game winning streak and have won two of their last three games. Maddison Ackiss leads the Gusties with five goals and three assists. Emily Skogseth has three goals and Paula Miller has two goals. Fourteen different Gusties have scored at least one goal this season. Angie Becker has recorded 75 saves and has a goals against average of 1.09. | Statistics

THE GUSTIES LAST TIME OUT: The Gusties lost 3-0 Sunday in a home contest to Wartburg College.Gustavus was outshot by Wartburg 16-11. The Knights also led in corner kicks, 6-2. The Knights scored in the 25th, 53rd and 56th minutes. Angie Becker recorded five saves. | Story and Stats

THE LAST TIME STOUT AND GUSTAVUS MET: Gustavus Adolphus outshot UW-Stout, 11-4 overall, and scored the only goal of the game in the 72nd minute to defeat the Blue Devils, 1-0, Oct. 21, 2015. The Gusties' Emily Odermatt scored off a free kick from the midline and the Gusties made the goal stand up. Stout's Paige Meyer recorded six saves, four in the first half. The Gusties' Ashley Becker made three saves, two in the second half. | Stats and Story


A LOOK AT UW-PLATTEVILLE: Heading into the week, the Pioneers are on a two-game winning streak, which snapped a seven game losing skid. Yamilex Jaramillo has scored six goals and has two assists. Emily Phillips has scored three goals. Alyssa Sickler and Mariah Kennedy have split the time in goal, Sickler has a goals against average of 1.07 and Kennedy 1.97. | Statistics

THE PIONEERS LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers defeated the Pointers 2-0 Saturday in Stevens Point. their first win in 33 meetings since 1992. (The 2006 match ended in a 1-1 tie.) The victory moves the Pioneers to 6-8 on the season, and 1-3 in the WIAC conference. The Pioneers started the scoring early, as Emily Phillips put the team on the board only 2:47 seconds into the game with her third goal of the game. The Pioneers quickly added another goal, with Yamilex Jaramillo scoring at the 25:26 mark in the first half. UW-Platteville was able to control the rest of the game, and the defense was able to prevent any comeback by the Pointers. The game ended in a 2-0 victory, and marks the Pioneers second consecutive victory. The Pioneers are scheduled to play UW-Whitewater Wednesday. | Stats and Story

THE LAST TIME STOUT AND PLATTEVILLE MET: Sydney Kasper scored two goals to push UW-Stout to a 3-1 win over UW-Platteville, Saturday at Pioneer Stadium, as Stout captured it's second conference win in as many attempts Sept. 26, 2016. Kasper put the Blue Devils on the board in the 20th minute of the contest with an assist by Addy Maher. Kelly Conn doubled Stout's total, taking a pass from Lindsey Concon and Jenna Kizlik and took the shot from about 18 yards out in the 34th minute. Kasper got her third goal of the season, finding the back of the net in the 64th minute with an assist by Rosie Anderson. The Pioneer's sister duo of Morgan Phillips to Emily Phillips broke up Paige Meyer's sixth shutout bid of the season in the 78th minute. Older sister Emily took younger sister Morgan's free kick and headed it into the net. | Stats and Story


A LOOK AT UM-MORRIS: Molly Hancuh has recored three hat tricks, including one game with four goals and leads the Cougars with 13 goals. Yu Ito has recorded five goals. Torri Jordan has worked all but six minutes this season and has a goals against average 2.21 with 109 saves. She has recorded three shutouts, all during the last three games. | Statistics

THE COUGARS LAST TIME OUT: The Cougars recorded an 8-0 win over Crown College, Oct. 15 and will play Bethany Lutheran, Oct. 19, and North Central University, Oct. 22 before hosting the Blue Devils Sunday. | Stats and Story

THE LAST TIME STOUT AND MORRIS MET: The ball must have looked three feet wide and coming in slow motion, because Minnesota-Morris' goalie, Torrie Jordan, stopped just about everything UW-Stout threw at her. And the Blue Devils threw a lot Jordan's way. But the Blue Devils got to her in overtime when Addy Maher pushed a shot past Jordan to give Stout a 1-0 win in the final home game of the 2015 at Nelson Field. The Blue Devils spent at least 75 percent of the game in the Morris zone, and pelted Jordan with 36 shots, 15 of them on frame. Jordan managed to grab, push or punch the ball away until the very end when the Blue Devils attacked hard as time was counting down in the first overtime period. Sydney Kasper pushed the ball to Maher, who shot the ball across the length of the net, going from right to left and burying the shot in the far lower corner.. | Stats and Story


AWARDS: Kelly Conn was named the WIAC Offensive Player of the Week and the UW-Stout/DigiCopy Athlete of the week Oct. 17 after scoring the game winning goal against St. Thomas and assisting on the game winner over UW-Oshkosh...UW-Stout has has received the 2015-2016 NSCAA College Team Academic Award. To qualify, a team must earn a minimum grade point average for the entire academic year. Stout posted a 3.43 team GPA, the highest of the six WIAC teams that were honored...Sydney Kasper and Jessica Ingle were selected to the Concordia-Moorhead all-tournament team, Sept. 4.

TEAM CAPTAINS: Blue Devil team captains for the 2016 season are Taylor Poss, Sarah Todey and Kelly Conn.

UW-STOUT COACH RYAN RAUFUS: Coach Ryan Raufus (43-49-12) is in his sixth year as the head coach of the Blue Devils. Raufus played his college ball at Springfield College in Massachusetts and came to Stout after coaching at La Crosse Logan High School and La Crescent, Minn., High School.

Halverson scored her first five goals over three games in 1999 and went on to score 14 goals on the season...Kelly Conn scored her first collegiate goal in the Blue Devils' season opener against Concordia University....sophomore Jenna Kizlik (Hammond) was named the WIAC offensive player of the week Sept. 5, 2012 after scoring the game-winning goal in the season opener against St. Olaf...This year's captains for the Blue Devils are Alix Hyduke, Emily Ferger (Wauwatosa) and Whitney Solomon (Duluth, Minn.)...Camille Fawcett scored her first career goal against UW-La Crosse.

DOWN THE ROAD: The Blue Devils will close out the regular season with a pair of conference games. Stout will host UW-La Crosse, Wednesday, Oct. 26, then close out the regular season by traveling to UW-Eau Claire, Saturday, Oct. 29.
