Blue Devils shut down by Titans on the road

UW-Oshkosh 45, UW-Stout 17

OSHKOSH (October 1, 2016) - UW-Stout faced a rowdy enviroment going on the road against UW-Oshkosh Saturday. It was a rough day overall, the Titans scored 45 points in the first half, but Stout was able to keep them at bay in the second half, not allowing a score, and adding two touchdowns of their own. The Titans carried a 45-17 win over the Blue Devils at Titan Stadium.

The first half was all Titans (4-0, 1-0 WIAC). Oshkosh's Devon Linzenmeyer scored four first half TDs, three by rush, one by pass reception. He carried the ball five times for 150 yards and three TDs (11, 79, 28). He had two receptions for 54 yards and one TD (23 yds). Stout (2-2, 0-1 WIAC) was able to gain 118 yards in the first half compared to Oshkosh's 462 yards.

Drew Pearson hit a milestone in the first half as well. Since 1996, only six UW-Stout kickers have attempted field goals of 50-yards or longer, and only three kickers have attempted two 50-yards plus in a single season. With Pearson drilling his second 50-yard field goal, a 51-yarder in the first half, he is the only Stout kicker to make two 50-plus yard field goals in a single season since 1996.

The Blue Devils were able to score twice in the second half behind a three-yard rush from Travis Urlaub, who ran for 79 yards. The second score came on a 22-yard TD pass from Danny Farley to Chris Pica-Anderson. Farely finished with 79 passing yards and 56 rushing yards on the day. The Blue Devils racked up 306 total yards of offense on the day.

On defense, Stout's Blake Strehlow had 12 tackles in the game, five of which were solo tackles.

The match-up with Oshkosh this season was tighter than last season's game at Williams Stadium. While Stout allowed 45 points, it was 24 fewer points than in their 2015 contest.

Stout will return home next weekend for their annual Homecoming matchup against UW-La Crosse. The game will begin at 2 p.m. with Homecoming activities before and after the game.
