WHITEWATER (September 25, 2015) - With one of the most stacked tournaments in regards to nationally ranked teams facing them, things looked good after the first set of the day, but the scores went downhill after that and UW-Stout fell, 3-1, to 25th ranked Williams College and 3-0 to sixth ranked Carthage College Friday at the UW-Whitewater Invitational.
The Blue Devils (10-7) opened the meet with a 25-16 win over Williams, but the Ephs (7-2) took the next the next three sets, 25-17, 25-23, 25-19.
Kennedy Strain (Fr, Elk River, Minn) led Stout with 15 kills, while
Ashley Pratt (So, Lakeville, Minn) had 14. Williams was strong at the serving line, collecting eight service aces.
Stout held their own at the net, recording two solo blocks and 14 block assists. Pratt had four assists and a solo, while Strain had three assists and a solo.
The Blue Devils ran into a buzz saw against Carthage, falling 25-17, 25-13, 25-20. Pratt had eight kills and the Stout was kept off the net, recording only a solo block and two assists. The Lady Reds (12-1) had six service aces and held Stout to a hitting percentage of .069, while recording three solo blocks and 12 assists.
Of the six teams at the tournament, four are ranked in the top 25. Stout will face 11th ranked University of Chicago and unranked Millikin University, Saturday, Sept. 26.
