Photo GalleryMENOMONIE (April 8, 2015) - UW-Stout was swept in a pair of two-run games by visiting UW-Platteville Wednesday at Nelson Field. The Pioneers captured wins of 8-6, 4-2.
The Blue Devils (10-7, 1-5 WIAC) scored first in the opening game.
Brady Burzynski led off with a single, and
Nick Nalbach followed up with a double to center field to bring Burzynski home. Nalbach would score Stout's second run of the inning when he came home on
Charlie Meyer's fielders choice.
The Pioneers (11-7, 2-0) knotted the score in the third, taking advantage of two Stout errors, the took a 5-2 lead three runs in the fourth.
The Blue Devils took the lead back with a four run fourth inning, highlighted by
Noah Brown's first collegiate home run, a two-run shot to right field. Burzynski drove in a run, then came home two plays later.
The Pioneers took the lead for good on a three fun fifth inning. Colin Deboer had a two run single and Tanner Galeazzi hit a sacrifce fly.
Stout outhit the Pioneers, 12-11, with Burzynski, Nalbach,
Josh Halling and
Hunter Dicus each getting two hits. Evan Greco was 3-for-5 with three RBI to lead Platteville.
In the nightcap,
Hayden Bowe was saddled with this first loss of the season, going eight inning, giving up nine hits and four earned runs. He recorded three strikeouts. .
Again, Stout opened up the scoringw ith a single run in the second inning when designated hitter
Chris Biederman recorded a sacifice fly to score
Jack Schneider.
The Pioneers put a pair of runs on the board itn e third inning, the took a 3-1 lead in the fourth and made it 4-1 in the eighth on Bobby Bean's two run double.
Stout got a run in the eighth when Nalbach's single up the middle scored Brown,who had led off the inning with a double.
Nalbach was Stout's only player to record more than one hit. Galeazzi, Jonny Frese and Todd Wienkes each had two hits for the Pioneers.
Stout will step out of conference play this weekend when they host fourth ranked St. Thomas, Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m., then travel to Macalester College, Sunday, April 12 for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
