Video ReplayMENOMONIE (April 28, 2015) - Hamline University had a couple of key innings and put a sour note on UW-Stout's final home games of the season when they swept the Blue Devils, 11-3, 7-3, Tuesday at Alumni Field.
The Pipers (27-11) laced Stout pitchers for 24 hits across both games, collecting 13 hits in game one and 11 hits in game two. Stout was limited to four hits in the opener, but did have seven hits in the nightcap.
In game one, the Pipers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, but Stout (15-25) did pull to within one run with a two-run second inning when relief pitcher
Abbey Ball (Fr, Austin, Minn) spiked a two-run double.
The Pipers got a run back in the third inning, then exploded for a four-run fourth inning, highlighted by Jaime Rubbelke's three-run home run. Hamline tacked on a run in the fifth inning and two runs in the seventh. Stout scored their final run in bottom of the seventh when
Rachel Thomas (Fr, Hastings, Minn) came home on an attempted double steal.
Stout took the early lead in the nightcap when
Taylor Workman's (Sr, Prior Lake, Minn) sacrifice fly brought home
Kim Jablonski (So, Watertown).
The Pipers grabbed a 2-1 lead on Amanda Orell's two-run single in the third, but Stout knotted the score when
Heather Bol came home on an attempted double steal.
Hamline took advantage of three infield hits in the sixth inning and took the lead back for good when Sammi Mau's single to center field brought in two runners. The Pipers added three runs in the seventh inning. Stout's final run came in the bottom of the seventh when
Gabby Gawreluk (Jr, St. Paul, Minn) came home on
Beth Wood's (Fr, Mineral Point) fielder's choice.
Bol,
Tori Workman (Jr, Prior Lake, Minn) and
Liz Seipel (So, Eau Claire) each had two hits in game two for Stout. The Pipers got two its from Orrell, Casey Anderson and Jenna Dushaw.
In the opener, Rubbelke finished with four RBI, going 2-for-3 for the Pipers. Mary-Clare Couilliard was 3-for-5 and Ali Ruter and Sidney Fransiscus each had two hits. Stout got hits from Ball, Seipel, Thomas and
Lynzi Knudtson (Sr, Melrose).
Stout will now turn their attention to tournament play, traveling to the WIAC Championship at Carson Park in Eau Claire, Friday, May 1. Stout, the tournament's fifth seed, will meet second seeded UW-Whitewater at noon.
