STEVENS POINT (April 2, 2015) - UW-Stevens Point combined for 30 hits over the two games and defeated UW-Stout, 12-0, 12-2, in shortened games Thursday that was the conference season openers for both teams at University Field.

In the opener, the Pointers (11-3, 2-0 WIAC) put up five runs in the second inning, a single run in the third to take a 6-0 lead, then doubled their pleasure with a six run fifth inning. The game ended after seven innings.
The Blue Devils (9-4, 0-2 WIAC) were able to collect seven hits, but committed three errors and stranded five runners.
Josh Halling (Jr, River Falls) was 2-for-2.
The Pointers rapped out 12 hits, with Cody Hanke going 2-for-2 with five RBI. getting a grand slam in the fifth inning.
In the second game, Stout took the early lead when Halling hit a solo shot down the left field line.
The Pointers answered back in a big way, scoring four runs in the third inning, highlighted by Cory Hanke's two-run home run.
Stevens Point took a 6-1 lead after four innings when
Nick Nalbach (Sr, Plover) drove in
Hunter Dicus (So, Elk Mound) on a double down the left field line.
Again the Pointers answered with a four-run outburst itn he sixth, then added single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to end the game.
Stevens Point collected 18 hits to Stout's five. Bobby Gregorich and Taylor Carlson were both 3-for-4 for the Pointers. Eight different Pointers had at least two hits.
The teams are slated to square off again Friday, April 3 at noon in Stevens Point.
