MENOMONIE (April 19, 2015) - UW-Stout was not able to come back quite far enough in the first game, but did shed a deficit in the second and went on to earn a split with UW-Oshkosh Sunday at Alumni Field. The Titans took the first contest, 5-4, and Stout won the second, 3-2.

Trailing 5-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh in game one, the Blue Devils (13-19, 5-7 WIAC) sWcored four runs and left the bases loaded, coming ever-so-close to taking the contest.

With runners on second and third and one out, Karley Wiensch (Jr, Chippewa Falls) dropped a ball just in front of the Titans' centerfielder, allowing Nicole Rogers (Jr, Brooklyn Center, Minn), who had reached on an error, and Sara Griesbach (Jr, Stratford) to score, cutting the lead to 5-2. Following a second out, Lynzi Knudtson (Sr, Melrose) reached on an infield hit, moving Wiensch and Beth Wood (Fr, Mineral Point) drew a full count walk to load the bases. Taylor Workman (Sr, Prior Lake, Minn) brought home Wiensch on a fielder's choice and Rachel Thomas (Fr, Hastings, Minn) walked to cut the lead to 5-4. A deep flyout to right field by Abbey Ball (Fr, Austin, Minn) ended the game.

The Titans (23-9, 9-3 WIAC) scored single runs in the first and second inning, then tacked on three runs in the top of the seventh.

In the nightcap, Oshkosh scored the first run of the contest in the fourth inning, when Haley Bayreuther drove in a run when she reached on an infield error.

Stout took the lead with a two-run fifth inning. Thomas opened the inning with a bunt single, followed up by a walk by Wiensch. With one out, Liz Seipel (So, Eau Claire) moved the runners a base. Thomas scored on a wild pitch and Nicole Rogers hit a shot to center field to bring in Wiensch.

The Titans tied the score in the sixth inning when Bayruether drove in her second run of the game, on a single to center field.

Stout took the lead back in the sixth inning. Griesbach drew a lead-off pinch hit walk, then moved to second on Knudtson's sacrifice bunt. Beth Wood reached on an error and the Blue Devils had runners on the corners. Kim Jablonski (So, Watertown) pinch ran for Wood, and promptly stole second. Rachel Thomas hit dribbler into the infield for a single and the bases were loaded. Heather Bol (So, Baldwin) delivered a pinch hit single to left field to score Griesbach for what would prove to be the winning run.

Tori Workman (Jr, Prior Lake, Minn) came on to earn the save, allowing a walk in the final inning, but forcing three fly balls. This was the second consecutive day Workman come on in relief of Ball to earn the save. Ball, who won game two of the previous day's game with UW-Stevens Point, went six complete innings, scattering nine hits, but allowing only two runs, one earned. She struck out none and had two walks.

Ball forced only five flyouts in the game, but allowed her infield to make 13 groundouts. Third baseman McKayla Brunner (Fr, Arkansaw) recorded five assists in the contest from the hot corner.

Thomas was 2-for-3 in the second game and Stout was limited to five hits. In the first game, Stout put down four hits. The Titans had six hits in game one, and nine in game two. Caitlin Hoerning was 2-for-4 in the second game and Erika Berry was 2-for-3 in the first game.

Stout returns to conference action this week when they travel to UW-River Falls, Wednesday, April 22, then conclude WIAC play, Saturday, April 25 when they travel to UW-Superior. Stout will host Gustavus Adolphus, Sunday, April 26.
