Hayden Bowe (So, Eau Claire) struck out seven and scattered four hits in seven innings of scoreless ball as UW-Stout closed out their spring break trip with a 4-0 shutout over Lasell College Saturday at Terry Park.
Bowe, making his third start and picking up his second win of the young season, never seriously got in serious trouble, facing 24 batters. Bowe faced three batters in four of his first five innings and allowed only one runner past second base. Bowe allowed a lead-off single in the sixth, got a ground out, allowed another single, then tossed a double play ball to end the inning.
Offensively, Stout (8-2) slashed out 10 hits, with
Jack Schneider (Sr, Minneapolis, Minn),
Jake Lunow (Sr, Princeton) and
Josh Halling (Jr, River Falls) each collecting two hits, with Halling's two hits coming with extra bases on a double and a triple..
The Blue Devils scored in the bottom of the first inning when
Charlie Meyer (Sr, Janesville) drove in
Brady Burzynski (Jr, Eau Claire). Stout doubled the score in the third inning.
Kasey Kruse (Sr, Menomonie) led off the inning with a double, then moved to third on a passed ball before Schneider brought him home.
Halling led off the third with a double and scored on
Nick Nalbach 's (Sr, Plover) two-out double. Halling drove in Stout's final run of the game in the seventh inning. Lunow reached on a two-out single, then stole second before Halling's triple brought him home.
Jacob Frederick (So, Monticello, Minn) faced three batters in the eighth inning and
Austin Booher (Jr, Stillwater, minn) allowed two base runners, but got a pair of groundouts and ended the game with a strikeout to preserve the shutout.
Lasell (3-7) is located in Newton, Mass. Stout returns to Wisconsin to host Northland College, Tuesday, March 24 at 2 p.m. in a single nine inning game.
