Archived VideoMENOMONIE (November 6, 2015) - UW-Stout came from behind to score three consecutive goals on their way to a home-opening 4-2 win over Bethel University Friday at Fanetti Community Center.
The Blue Devils (1-1-1) picked up their first win of the season, but fell behind early in the second period after Eric Szafranski scored at 3:08 for the first goal of the night.
Stout took advantage on the power play five minutes later when
Jake Useldinger (Sr, East Grand Forks, Minn) scored his third goal of the season, getting assists from
Derek Sand (Jr, West Fargo, ND) and
Justin Moody (Jr, Grand Forks, ND). The Blue Devils took the lead for good when, on a 4-on-4,
Joe Anderson (Fr, Side Lake, Minn) scored his first collegiate goal, and did it unassisted at 9:57 of the second.
In the third period, Bethel was whistled for two simultaneous penalties, and Stout took advantage of the 5-on-3 when
Steve Doane (Fr, Calgary, Alberta) got on the scoring sheet for the first time in his collegiate career, scoring at 2:43 of the third with assists from
Danny Ray (Sr, Grand Forks, ND) and goalkeeper
Spencer Viele (So, Wildwood, Mo).
Bethel made the game very interesting when Peter Barral scored with just less than three minutes remaining. Bethel pulled their goalie with just less than 90 seconds remaining, but Stout's
Shayne McLaughlin (Jr, Eau Claire) scored an empty netter with 13 seconds remaining, with an assist by
Jordan Stejskal (So, Grand Rapids, Minn).
Stout held a 49-24 advantage in shots on net. Bethel's Jesse Garcia recorded 45 saves, while Viele stopped 22.
Stout will host Gustavus Adolphus College, Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
