UW-La Crosse 28, UW-Stout 21LA CROSSE (October 10, 2015) - UW-Stout scored touchdowns by the pass, by the run and on special teams but it wouldn't be enough as the Blue Devils lost 28-21 to UW-La Crosse at Veterans Memorial Stadium Saturday.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Eagles (2-3, 1-1 WIAC) scored twice in the second quarter, first on a Tyler Jenkins 2-yard run at 12:17 and on a 2-yard pass from John Tackett to Nolan Bargender with nine seconds left in the half as the Eagles carried a 14-0 lead into halftime.
Stout cut the lead in half when quarterback
Hank Kujak (Sr, Blair) capped off a 75-yard, 11-play drive with a 24 yard touchdown strike to
Jordan Dabney (Jr, Monteca, Calif) at the 10 minute mark of the third quarter. The Eagles scored at the 3:10 mark of the third quarter when Tackett connected with John Oxton for a 21-yard scoring pass.
Stout was able to get back onto the board and made it a 21-14 game when, after stopping the Eagles and forcing a field goal attempt,
Travis Shackleton (So, Baldwin) blocked the kick and
Enzo Rosani (So, Gagny, France) scooped up the ball at the 14-yard line and returned it 86 yards for the score.
The Eagles made it a two touchdown game again, this time when Tackett tossed his third touchdown pass of the day, an eight year throw to Samuel Zwieg with 4:28 left.
Stout drove 75 yards over the next two minutes and scored when
Adolfo Pacheco (Jr, South Elgin, Ill) scored from two yards out with 2:40 remaining.
Stout finished with 295 yards of total offense, 179 passing, 116 rushing. Kujak was 19-of-37 for all 179 yards.
Kevion McDonald (Fr, Chanhassen, Minn) had five catches for 67 yards and
Chris Pica-Anderson (Jr, Eleva) recorded eight catches for 60 yards.
Kevin Houts (Sr, Bloomington, Minn) recorded two sacks.
The Eagles tallied 413 total yards of offense, 261 by passing, 152 by rushing. Tackett was 24-for-34 for 247 yards with three scores. Oxton pulled down 11 passes for 143 yards. Zweig had nine catches for 79 yards. Jenkins ran the ball 21 times for 105 yards.
Stout will be at UW-Eau Claire, Saturday, Oct. 17 for a 6 p.m. contest.
