UW-Stout 3, St. Olaf 0ST. PAUL, Minn. (September 19, 2014) - After dropping the first two sets, UW-Stout stormed back to defeat Hamline University, 3-2, at the St. Catherine University Inviational Friday. The Blue Devils went on to down St. Olaf, 3-0, in the late game.
Hamline (7-2) took the first two sets 26-24, 25-15, and it looked like the Pipers were well on their way to picking up their seventh consecutive win over the Blue Devils.
But Stout's
Morgan Denny (Jr, Luck) came to life, putting down six kills in each of the third and fourth sets, as Stout evened the match, 25-22, 26-24.
Ashley Pratt (Fr, Lakeville, Minn) had four kills in the fourth set and
Katie Hackl (So, Suamico) had three.
The Blue Devils (8-5)Â took the final set, 15-9, stopping the losing skid at six matches, with five different Stout players collecting a kill. But more importantly, Stout recorded only two attack errors, while the Pipers had seven attack errors. Stout combined for a solo block and six block assists.
Stout sealed the win when Denny recorded her only kill of the final set. Stout's last win over HAmline came on Oct. 3, 2009, with a 3-0 win in Menomonie.
Denny finished the match with 15 kills.
Molly Brion (Jr, Cameron) had 10 kills and 22 digs.
Nicole Bradford (Sr, Ridgeland) had 30 digs. Pratt had seven kills and Hackl six. Denny finished with a solo block and three assisted blocks. Brion and Pratt each had a solo block and two assisted blocks.
Denny continued her assault, finishing with 15 kills against the Oles (5-6). as Stout won 25-16, 25-18, 25-19.
Stout will close out the tournament by facing Grinnell College and host St. Catherine, Saturday, Sept. 20.
