Blue Devils bounce back to split first day matches at Gustavus Invite

ST. PETER, Minn. (September 12, 2014) - Morgan Denny (Sr, Luck) had 17 kills and Kaylee Jacobs (Jr, Glenwood, Minn) had 14 as UW-Stout defeated Simpson College, 3-1, to bounce back after a 3-0 opening tournament loss to Bethel University Friday at the Gustavus Adolphus Invitational.

After getting swept in the opening match against Bethel University, the Blue Deivls (6-3), dropped their first set against Simpson, 25-21, but came back to take the match, 25-18, 25-22, 25-16. Ashley Pratt (Fr, Lakeville, Minn) added nine kills for Stout.

The Storm's Tabitha Blaser led all players with 20 kills.

Against Bethel (9-2), Stout stayed close, but couldn't pull any of the sets out, falling 25-23, 25-20, 25-21. Denny had 10 kills and Jacobs nine. Denny finished with a pair of solo blocks. Tegan LaBerge had 13 kills for Bethel.

Stout will close out the tournament, Saturday, Sept. 13 by facing Buena Vista University and Coe College.
