Pointers score three in second to fly by Blue Devils

MENOMONIE (February 7, 2014) - UW-Stout gave themselves an opportunity when they cut the score in half midway through the second period, but third ranked UW-Stevens Point scored the next four goals to take a 6-2 win Friday at the Dunn County Ice Arena.

The Pointers (16-2-2, 4-2-1 WIAC) scored midway through the first period to open the scoring when Alex Brooks notched a goal at 12: 04 of the first period. The Pointers doubled the score two minutes into the second on a goal by Kyle Heck.

Stout's Kevin O'Donnell (Sr, Stoughton) broke a five-game goal-scoring drought when he scored on the power play at 11:42 of the second period,with assists by Zach Vierling (Jr, Coon Rapdis, Minn) and Logan Maly (Sr, Rio) to put the Blue Devils (6-14-0, 2-5-0 WIAC) in position to make a move.

Three mintues later, Kevin Gibson of Stevens Point scored on the power play and the Pointers' Kyle Sharkey added another goal a minute later.

The Pointers got goals by Eliot Grauer and GArrett Ladd in the third period before Stout's Craig Lindegard (Fr, Hallock, Minn) scored with three  minutes to play for the final score.

Corey Koop (Fr, Squamish, BC) had 34 saves for Stout, while Brandon Jaeger made 31 saves for the Pointers.

The teams will meet again Saturday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
