PLATTEVILLE (February 26, 2014) - UW-Stout could not recover from a nearly nine minute first half scoreless drought and went on to drop a 70-53 decision to UW-Platteville Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the WIAC Championship tournament at Bo Ryan Court.

With the score tied at 10-10, Platteville went on a 20-0 tear over the nine minute period for a 30-10 lead and the Blue Devils could not recover.

Stout did pull to within 14 points, 34-20, at halftime and cut the lead to as little as 10 points 35-25 two minutes into the second stanza, but that would be as close as they would get.

Platteville got 20 points and 10 rebounds from Chas Cross. Eric Gerber added 17 points.

Jimmy Whitehead (Sr, La Crosse) led Stout with 16 points and six rebounds. Alex Oman (Sr, Lake Elmo, Minn) finished with nine points. Oman finished his four-year career with 1118 points, tying him for 14th place on the UW-Stout all-time scoring list with Jerry Kissman (1963-67) and Ben Kuepers (1996-2000).

The Pioneers will play at top seeded UW-Stevens Point, Friday, Feb. 28. In the other quarterfinal game, UW-La Crosse defeated UW-Oshkosh, 76-61.
