University of Northwestern 69, UW-Stout 64ST. PAUL, Minn. (December 20, 2014) -
Jarvis Ragland (Sr, Milwaukee) scored a career-high 26 points and gave UW-Stout their only lead of the game with a seven point run of his own in the second half, but the Blue Devils could not hold off the University of Northwestern, falling to the Eagles, 69-64, at Ericksen Center Saturday.
The Blue Devils (2-7) trailed throughout the game until Ragland went on a run of his own to give Stout their only lead of the game.
John Lahti (Fr, Turtle Lake) pulled Stout to within three points at 11:54 in the second half and Ragland went to work.
The senior hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 50-50, grabbed a defensive rebound, turning that into a jumper to give Stout a 52-50 lead. Following another miss by the Eagles, Ragland was fouled and drained both free throws to give Stout a 54-50 lead at 10:01.
The Eagles (2-8) hit two free throws to pull to within 54-52 and Stout went on to take a six point lead on baskets by
Hank Kujak (Jr, Blair) andÂ
D'Marcco Patrick (Fr, Kenosha). Two free throws and a 3-pointer by the Eagles' Porter Morrell and Northwestern was within one point at 5:52. A layup by Will Gisler 40 seconds later put Northwestern back into the lead for good.
Northwestern ran out to a five point lead with less than a minute left and Ragland hit a 3-pointer to pull Stout to within two, 66-64, with 30 seconds left. Northwestern hit three of four free throws to seal the win.
Ragland was 8-of-16 from the floor, 3-of-6 from 3-point range and 7-of-9 from the line. Ragland pulled down nine rebounds.
Sam Ortmann (Fr, Buffalo, Minn) scored a career-best nine points for Stout.
The Eagles held a commanding 47-32 edge in rebounds. Kyle Ooms pulled down 16 rebounds and Caleb Johnson yanked down 12. Cody Sprenger scored 19 points, Michael Carney 17 and Johnson 16.
Stout returns to action Monday, Dec. 29 when they meet John Carroll University at the St. Norbert Tournament.
