EAU CLAIRE (November 4, 2014) - At the end of back-to-back corner kicks and in the middle of a scrum for the ball in the box, UW-Eau Claire recorded the only goal of the game in the first half and knocked UW-Stout out of the WIAC Championship tournament Tuesday at Bollinger Field.
The Blugolds fielded two back-to-back corner kicks midway through the first half and Sami Matuszk, in the middle of a flood of humanity from both sides found the ball and pushed it past Stout goalkeeper
Paige Meyer (Jr, Beldenville) at 27:29 for the only goal of the game.
The Blue Devils (5-10-3) had trouble putting shots on frame, recording only one in the game, that coming in the first half. The Blugolds (8-9-2) outshot Stout, 16-7 overall, and put five shots on goal.
The Blugolds advance to the semi-finals Thursday, Nov. 6 at UW-Oshkosh.
