Hamline comes back to force overtime, tips Blue Devils 95-89

Hamline University 95, UW-Stout 89

ST. PAUL, Minn. (November 25, 2014) - UW-Stout's Kyleigh Hebert (Jr, Spencer) scored six points in the final minute of regulation, but so did Hamline University's Jordan Sammons as the Pipers came back to force overtime and took a 95-89 win over the Blue Devils Tuesday at Hutton Arena.

With the score tied at 75-75 with two minutes remaining in regulation, Hebert hit a jumper with a minute left and Haley Froehlich (Sr, Mondovi) canned a bucket to give Stout a 79-75 lead. The Pipers' Sammons cut the lead to two, but Hebert pushed it to an 81-77 lead. Hamline's Chelsey Bonsante made it 81-79 and Hebert drained two free throws with 13 seconds left to push the score to 83-79. Sammons cut the lead to two, and Stout missed two free throws. Sammons pulled down the rebound, was fouled and sent the game into OT by draining both shots.

Katelynne Folkers (Sr, Fall Creek) would tie the score at 3:45  for Stout (1-4) in overtime and, second later, give Stout an 87-85 lead before the Pipers (3-2) went on a 6-0 run to take control and, eventually, the win.

Stout trailed by two points, 36-34, at halftime, but tied the score and took the lead a minute into the second half, and only allowed a tie, once with two minutes left, and then with three seconds remaining in regulation.

Stout had four players in double digits, led by Folkers, who scored 17. Folkers tossed in all six overtime points for Stout. Froehlich finished with 15 points, Hebert with 13 and Brea Boomer with 10. Hebert had nine rebounds and Froehlich collected eight.

Sammons, who last year led the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) in scoring, led all scorers tonight with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Bonsante and Chloe Graves contributed 21 points each and Emily Behrman came off the bench to score 14 points.

Stout will host the UW-Stout Thanksgiving Turkey Shootout, Saturday, Nov. 29 and Sunday, Nov. 30. Stout will meet St. Scholastica Saturday at 5 p.m. The consolation game is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday, and the championship game at 3 p.m.
