Blue Devils volleyball sweeps UW-La Crosse Invitational

| UW-Stout 3, UW-Oshkosh 0 | UW-Stout 3, Luther College 1 |

LA CROSSE (October 4, 2014) - The UW-Stout volleyball team had a big afternoon, coming away with a pair of victories at the UW-La Crosse Invitational on Saturday. Stout knocked off WIAC rival, No. 25 UW-Oshkosh in the morning before handling Luther College in the afternoon.

In the first match of the day, Stout rolled over No. 25 Oshkosh in three straight sets. Led by hitters Molly Brion (Jr, Cameron) and Laura Reiter (Jr, Lino Lakes, Minn.), the Blue Devils won by scores of 25-23, 25-14 and 25-22. Brion recorded 12 kills while Reiter added 11 for Stout. Karley Wiensch (Sr, Chippewa Falls) recorded 37 assists, three service aces and 11 digs while Nicole Bradford (Sr, Ridgeland) added 16 digs for the Blue Devils. The loss was only Oshkosh's second on the year.

Against Luther, the Blue Devils quickly won the first set by a score of 25-13. Set two was much more contested, with Stout holding on for a 25-23 win. In set three, Luther kept things interesting with a 25-21 victory over the Blue Devils before Stout came back for a 25-19 victory in the fourth set. Brion was the top attacker again for Stout, recording 13 kills to go along with 10 digs. Katie Hackl (So, Suamico) and Morgan Denny (Sr, Luck) also each recorded nine kills, as six different Blue Devils recorded at least five kills for the team. Wiensch had 40 assists, eight digs and five kills and Bradford had another 16 digs in the win.

Reiter was selected to the all tournament team.

With the victories on Saturday, Stout improved to 13-6 on the season, just two wins away from matching their win total from a year ago. Up next, the Blue Devils will take on the College of St. Scholastica at Johnson Fieldhouse on Tuesday, Oct. 7. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m and will be streamed live through the UW-Stout athletics home page.
