UW-Oshkosh 32, UW-Stout 7OSHKOSH (October 4, 2014) - UW-Stout wasn't able to get anything going on offense, as the Blue Devils dropped a 32-7 decision in the WIAC opener at UW-Oshkosh Saturday.
Stout (1-3, 0-1 WIAC) was able to keep the game close in the first half, as the Blue Devil defense, led by linebacker
Luke Bakkum (Sr, Oconomowoc), held the Titan offense to just nine points. Bakkum, who came into the game leading the WIAC in sacks and tackles for loss, had 13 tackles in the loss, including two more sacks to push his season total to 6.5.
Oshkosh (1-3, 1-0 WIAC) got on the board with field goal in the first quarter before scoring a pair of touchdowns in the second. The first TD came on a blocked punt that Levi Kossow returned for a score from eight yards away and the second came on a 15-yard run by Dylan Hecker with about a minute to go in the half.
The Titans tacked on another score with five minutes to go in the third, as quarterback Brett Kasper found Zach Kasuboski from 20-yards out, pushing their lead to 22-0.
With time winding down in the third, the Blue Devils were finally able to get on the board, when back-up quarterback
Garrett Peterson (So, Menasha) was able to hit
Aaron Jenny (Sr, Spicer, Minn.) on a 37-yarder that Jenny took in for the score.
A field goal and another touchdown run by the Titans in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach.
Peterson finished 7-of-16 for 104 yards and a touchdown. Jenny hauled in four passses for 57 yards and a score while fellow reciever
Zak Snell (Sr, Castaic, Cali.) had four catches for 46 yards. Running back
Adolfo Pacheco (So, South Elgin, Ill.) was Stout's leading gainer on the ground, with 14 carries for 54 yards while
Tanner Kuehn (Sr, Fairchild) added 11 carries and 41 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Garrett Eide (So, Blair) forced and recoverd a fumble and had a tackle for loss and linebacker
Kyle Hoefft (Jr, Morton, Ill.) recorded 10 tackles, including two for loss.
As a team, Stout had 145 passing yards and 103 rushing yards for 248 total. Oshkosh racked up 168 on the ground and 242 through the air for a total of 410.
Up next, Stout will return home to Don and Nona Williams Stadium for the Homecoming game next Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. The Blue Devils will face off against the defending national champion UW-Whitewater.
