UW-Stout 3, UW-River Falls 1RIVER FALLS (October 18, 2014) -
Molly Brion recorded double digit kills in both matches as UW-Stout defeated Bethel University and UW-River Falls, 3-1, at the UW-River Falls Invitational Saturday at Karges Center. The two wins give Stout 19 wins on the season, their most in a single season since 2004.
Brion talled 13 kills in a 25-21, 17-25, 25-12, 25-13, day-opening win over Bethel, then chalked up 10 kills in a 25-20, 13-25, 25-20, 25-21 win over the host Falcons. Stout (19-7) had lost to both teams earlier in the season, 3-0 to Bethel and 3-2 to River Falls.
Against the Royals (15-8),
Morgan Denny (Sr, Luck) led the way with a match-high 15 kills, leading four Blue Devils in double-digit numbers. Brion followed with 13 kills,
Ashley Pratt (Fr, Lakeville, Minn) recorded 12 and
Olivia Jung (So, Andover, Minn) finished with 1o. The Blue Devls threw a block party against Bethel, putting down four solo blocks and eight block assists. Denny and Jung each had two solo blocks. Jung had two assisted blocks and Pratt had four assisted blocks. Brion and
Laura Reiter (Jr, Lino Lake, Minn) each had an assisted block.
Karley Wiensch (Sr, Chippewa Falls) had a season-high 58 assists.
Tegan LaBerge had 12 kills to lead the Royals.
Against the Falcons (9-13), Reiter led the way with 15 kills, followed by Brion's 10. Stout continued their way at the net, recording three solo blocks and 15 assisted blocks. Pratt had a pair of solo blocks and two assisted blocks. Jung recorded five assisted blocks, while Denny recorded six assisted blocks. Wiensch and Reiter each had one assisted block.
Lisa Keppers had 14 kills for the Falcons and Katie Duff had 11.
Stout returns to conference action when they travel to UW-Stevens Point, Wednesday, Oct. 22. Stout will be at UW-Eau Claire, Wednesday, Oct. 29 and close out the regular season by hosting UW-La Crosse, Friday, Oct. 31.
