Blue Devils take early lead, but can't hold off 9th ranked Utica

OSWEGO, NY (January 3, 2014) - NInth-ranked Utica College scored three unanswered goals and went on to a 4-2 win over UW-Stout at the Pathfinder Bank/Oswego Classic Friday at the Campus Center Ice Arena.

Stout (3-8) took the early lead by scoring two goals in the first period.

Jordan Tredinnick (Jr, Onalaska) scored at the eight minute mark of the first period, but Utica came back when Jon Gaffney scored his first goal of the evening. The Blue Devils took the lead back when Russell Whited (Sr, Indianapolis, Ind) scored with two minutes left in the first period, assisted by Derek Sand (Fr, West Fargo, ND).

The Blue Devils held the lead until Gaffney scored his second goal of the afternoon eight minutes into the second period.  Utica scored twice in the third period, on goals by Trever Hertz at 11:19 and by Luc Boby at 17:52.

The Blue Devils' Corey Koop (Fr, Squamish, BC) recorded 39 saves, while Utica's (9-2-1) Nick Therrien notched 32 saves.
