Volleyball team splits in first day at Macalester College Invitational

ST. PAUL, Minn. (September 6, 2013) - UW-Stout split during the first day of the Macalester College Invitational, falling in the first contest, 3-1, to Carleton College, but taking the second contest, 3-2, over Minnesota-Morris, Friday at the Leonard Athletic Center.

Stout lost to Carleton, 21-25, 25-18, 25-14, 25-23 and defeated UM-Morris, 25-15, 12-25, 25-17, 20-25, 15-13. The loss to Carleton was Stout's first of the season.

Against Carleton, Molly Brion (So, Cameron) had 10 kills, while Emily Crew (Jr, Maplewood, Minn) and Rachel Tschumperlin (So, Fairmont, Minn) each had five block assists.

In the second match of the day, Morgan Denny (Jr, Luck) finished with 14 kills, three solo blocks and three block assists. Brion had 12 kills. Nicole Bradford (Jr, Ridgeland) had 35 digs.

Stout (3-1) will conclude the tournament, Saturday, Sept. 7 when they face Northland College and host Macalester College.
