MENOMONIE (September 4, 2013) -
Alix Hyduke (Sr, Duluth, Minn) scored two goals and the UW-Stout defense dug in to give the Blue Devils a 2-1 non-conference win over Bethel University at Nelson Field Wednesday.
Hyduke wasted no time in getting on the board, scoring off a turnover only two minutes into the game.
The Royals (1-1-0) came back on the attack, pelting the Stout (2-1-0) goal, but goalkeeper
Paige Meyer (So, Beldenville) turned away five shots in the first half. Meyer finished the game with 10 saves.
Hyduke picked up her fifth goal of the season five minutes into the second half, taking a pass from
Megan Collins (So, Maple Grove, Minn), then putting the shot in from outside the box.
Bethel cut the lead in half Jessica Huseby, the Royals' leading scorer from last season, scored in the 66th minute.
Stout outshot Bethel, 15-14, but the Royals put 11 shots on net, compared to Stout's eight.
Stout takes to the road for their next two games, traveling to Springfield, Mass,. to face Springfield College, Friday, Sept. 6 and Roger Williams College, Saturday, Sept. 7.
